Network printer W10-W7

Hello,
I need help connecting a printer to my local network.
I have a Canon MG 5250 printer connected to my PC running Windows 10 and I can't share it with my wife's computer which runs Windows 7. The latter detects the printer well but when it tries to connect, the following error message appears: "Windows cannot connect to the printer - error 0x0000011b".
Can someone help me? Thank you very much.

Hello,

If it is connected via Wi-Fi, there is no local network; each connects to the printer via Wi-Fi through the Box.

If it is connected via USB to your PC, just to clarify, is the network sharing between the two computers misconfigured or not configured at all?

Yes, it is connected via USB to my PC and our network uses powerline adapters, there must be something misconfigured somewhere, yet we can exchange files on the network but not with the printer. Any ideas?

On Windows 10 or 11, you need to right-click on the printer in devices and printers, go to properties, and then sharing.

In the network and sharing center, file and printer sharing must be enabled.

On the Windows 7 side, go to devices and printers, add a printer, network.

Connect and install the driver.

That's exactly what I did, here's what it looks like on the computer connected via USB to the printer

...and on the W7 computer

That's the problem

If the local network is properly configured on both sides (which is likely the case if we can exchange files and see the printer), it might be the infamous Microsoft security patch that is causing issues.

Try modifying the registry on both machines:

Thank you Brucine, I had a little hope with this solution but after changing the registry and restarting the spooler on both machines the result is still the same: error 0x0000011b.

I give my tongue to the cat.

For a local network to be fully functional between XP and 10/11, SMB1 sharing (Control Panel, Programs, Optional Features) must be enabled in the latter (and of course, NetBIOS must not be blocked by a firewall or any security device). I don't believe this is still the case with Windows 7, but anyway...

DO NOT enable the homegroup under Windows 7; the network should preferably be a workgroup and both PCs in the same workgroup.

That said, I have no problem installing the printer physically connected to my Windows 11 PC in my Windows 7 setup, which is a virtual machine and is therefore seen as a local network, except that Windows 7 does not have the built-in driver, but it suffices to install it afterwards (it's a true network printer, but that doesn't change the issue as far as we are concerned).

Test completed, I had to backtrack, the driver never wanted to install afterwards.

I installed the printer under Windows 7 exactly as I did under Windows 10 with the appropriate software, specifying the desired mode (Ethernet for me), and now it works.

I'll try that (reinstalling the drivers) tomorrow because I'm done for today, it's inhumane to spend your Sunday trying to get your wife's printer to work... Thanks again for your help. To be continued...

If you don't feel like fighting, you can set it up via Wi-Fi on one of the PCs instead of USB, that should solve the problem.
