Is it possible to index a folder on a NAS from Windows 11?

Hello,

I had a large folder on my D: hard drive that I moved to my Synology NAS so I could access it from all my PCs.

Previously, I had indexed the folder in question on each PC to have much faster search results.

Problem: when I go to W11 in indexing options/edit, I don't see the hard drive of my NAS (I only see C: and D:). Does this mean that it is impossible to index folders located on a NAS from Windows 11?

I did see this page on Synology's website, but it concerns indexing from the DSM (which I never use...), is that correct? https://kb.synology.com/fr-fr/DSM/help/DSM/AdminCenter/application_mediaindexservice_general?version=7

Thank you in advance for your responses,

mtl

Hello,

I found this discussion; https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/indexing-a-shared-folder-on-a-server/05926f06-192a-463b-a2fa-b6d1ac483ecf

it looks very similar to your case.

Thank you very much!

I followed the initial steps and I have a new network drive listed in my network locations, but when I go back to Indexing Options, I don't see a new "mapped drive, CSC," as mentioned by the advisor in the referenced conversation.

This folder still seems inaccessible from indexing.

Hello.

I tried on my VM, I'm stuck too.

Another thing that took 20 seconds on W10 and now takes an eternity (when we find the solution).

The problem is that on the mapped drives (so the NAS), the properties are not accessible. Maybe this bug is related to the VM.

So there seems to be no solution.

However, I would like to thank both of you for allowing me to provide an answer to my question!

(I will therefore mark the topic as resolved.)
