USB ports on IIyama monitor

Hello,

Far from mastering this type of equipment, I would need your help regarding a 27-inch IIyama screen model G-Master G2770HSU that my son received for Christmas, to which he has connected his PS5 via the HDMI port.

My question is as follows: there are also two USB ports at the back of the screen that don't seem to work. We are disappointed because he tried to connect his soundbar to them and it doesn’t work. However, the manual states that you can connect a mouse and keyboard if, of course, used with a PC, so we naively thought we could connect his soundbar to it. Do you know if there is another way for him to use it? Knowing that on the PS5 it doesn't work via USB either, as the sound always comes through the screen.

If the sound only comes out via HDMI on this type of screen, do you think it would be possible to get it working via an HDMI splitter or adapters? Or perhaps through the DisplayPort with a USB adapter as well?

I am open to your solutions anyway, thank you very much for reading, and best wishes!

Hello,

On a a monitor, the USB ports are there to multiply the ports of the original device, usually a PC.

If we look at the description of the monitor, we have:

Interfaces: HDMI; DisplayPort; 2 x downstream USB 2.0 (Type A); upstream USB 2.0 (Type B); headphone

In reality, there are 3 USB ports, 1 input that powers the 2 outputs.

You need to power the USB ports of the monitor by connecting to the USB-B port; this first port is generally connected to the PC, and it allows powering the 2 USB-A downstream ports to connect a keyboard or a mouse next to the monitor. Surely you could connect speakers to one of these USB-A ports if the PC is connected to the USB-B.

To power the monitor's USB ports, we will use a cable of this type USB-A / USB-B: https://www.amazon.fr/remplacement-imprimante-ip7250-ip2700-MG2550/dp/B01M7PTAJ5/

If the PS5 (I don’t know this device at all) has a USB output port, and it is capable of outputting sound through USB, it may possibly transmit sound when connected to the monitor. But that would be the same as connecting the soundbar directly via USB to the PS5.

Hello

I don't know if I understood correctly, do you mean to connect the PS5 to the display port of the screen with a cable like the one linked on Amazon? And would that power the two USB ports of the screen?

Thank you

not via displayport, which is a video port like HDMI, but through the USB-B port

but actually, to see if the PS5 can power the soundbar, there's no need to go through the screen, a USB cable between the PS5 and the soundbar is enough.

by the way, is the USB port on the soundbar indeed an input for audio streaming? it might only be used to plug in a USB stick that contains music tracks.

Hello.

The USB ports on your screen are not intended for audio output.

However, you do have a headphone jack on your screen (usually a 3.5mm jack). Do you have the same type of connector on your soundbar, or an RCA connector (Red/White)?

If you can't find it, could you please provide us with the brand and model of your soundbar?

Please note that with the HDMI input of your screen, sound is transmitted from the PS5 to the screen, which has two 2W speakers. You can get sound, but it's quite light.

Hello,

thank you for your response.

Indeed, we have sound on the screen, but it was so weak that he added a small soundbar from Battletron gaming.

I’m not quite sure about the model, it’s the same as this one: https://youtu.be/gV5RFpTgLlM?si=GyeSwFVtglccPxPY

It does have a Jack input that we connected to the Jack plug at the back of the screen. But unfortunately, it doesn’t work either. It only has this Jack input, a USB plug, and Bluetooth, but since it’s not supported by the PS5 (only for Sony).

That’s why I was looking for an alternative solution for him to use it.

Thank you anyway.

I watched the video, it must not be the same soundbar, there is no USB. On the one in the video, the jack plug is clearly for input.

We should test the jack socket on the screen with headphones or earphones to see if there is any sound coming out.

Yes, I didn't pay attention, it's a little different.

The features of ours are here:

https://www.action.com/fr-fr/p/3200433/barre-de-son-de-gaming-battletron/

Sound comes through well in the headset when it's plugged into the Jack socket of the screen. That's why I don't understand why it doesn't work with this soundbar.

There's something I'm missing, but what?

There are hardly any explanations. I think the USB (charging) is only for powering the speaker; you need to connect the USB plug to a charger. The jack should serve as an input. But since there is also Bluetooth, you need to select either jack or Bluetooth somewhere, as shown in the video.

Hello,

I admit I don't really understand what the problem is. If I believe the technical specifications of the Liyama G-master G2770HSU monitor, it has two built-in speakers (2x2W) and volume control buttons.

The technical sheet https://iiyama.com/pdf/Product/965/fr_fr.pdf

The user manual https://iiyama.com/f/c7d5047f12e7b940439949812d2c0836_gb-g2770qsu-usermanual-f-revd.pdf

Especially when it's not there...

Normally, the headphone output present on the screen should suffice...

To power the USB port, all you need is a phone charger.

But this Battletron soundbar does not seem likely to provide sound much better than that of the screen.

There are, of course, HDMI audio extractors to insert between the PS5 and the screen.

Examples: https://www.amazon.fr/Keyixing-Extracteur-TOSLINK-analogique-Adaptateur/dp/B07QR34BJ8

https://www.amazon.fr/Extracteur-S%C3%A9parateur-Adaptateur-Convertisseur-Analogique/dp/B075M1PH23

But I don't think the expense is really worth it if used with this bar. Especially since it will also need to be powered via USB or phone charger.
