Why not switch to truly free and efficient software like Libre Office or its corporate equivalent Open Office? Both will have regular updates without forcing you to become a customer of a commercial product.
Both are suites containing a word processor on par with Word but developed in Open Source (the world of free and open software) and can read Microsoft Office files. It's a shame to have to go through one of the most powerful multinationals with questionable business practices when there's better and free options available (the Starter version being of course a pre-installed version with minimal features, whose only existence is to make you purchase the paid version);)

We may have good or bad reasons for preferring Microsoft Office to Libre or Open Office or vice versa, but if we do so on Windows, the argument is specious since Windows itself is an offshoot of Microsoft and thus of Big Capital, which does not hesitate, since Windows 10, to do more than just encourage the use of its proprietary content, some of which are paid directly and others indirectly since they rely on telemetry exploitation and click monetization.

Whether we have a good or a bad reason to want to use Microsoft Office at a lower cost:
-Starter 2010 is not necessarily a good idea, not only due to limited features but also because of ads; however, aside from potential compatibility with the operating system, there’s nothing preventing a 32-bit software from running on 64-bit, it’s the opposite that isn’t true.
