Call and cut straight away!

Hello,

This afternoon, I received a call from an unknown number, which was not marked as spam by my smartphone (Samsung). Often, my phone indicates "spam," but not for this one. So, I answered, but it hung up immediately afterwards.

I am with SFR, and I remember a few years ago, I was charged €10 for 1 or 2 seconds of call, without any words being spoken; it hung up quickly... SFR reimbursed me but told me it would be the first and last time they would refund me for that.

I checked the SFR app today, and so far, I do not see any amount charged, but I am worried now.

And so, I would like to know who these people are that call unknown numbers and for what purpose? If no amount has (thankfully) been charged, what is the point of these calls?

I am fed up because I get about ten (spam) calls a day that I do not answer. But on top of that, I also have unknown numbers that are not marked as spam calling me, I am really tired of it. What can be done about it? I have already blocked several numbers, but I do not know if it really works, and anyway, it’s too many numbers a day to block them all!

Thank you in advance.

Hello,

It's very difficult to answer your question. It could be spam or an error.

If your smartphone is recent, you have Hiya to identify unwanted calls and spammers.
It's in the settings of the Phone app. Click on Incoming Call ID and Spam Protection. Set it to maximum protection (Block all unwanted calls and scammers).
There may be some errors, but it's still rare.

With your provider (SFR), you also have the option to block hidden calls; this is not done on the phone itself.

In general, this is enough for you to enjoy good tranquility. After a while, you will see that the number of unwanted calls decreases significantly. You can then adopt a less restrictive level of protection.

What is well conceived is clearly stated,
And the words to express it come easily.

Hello,

Thank you for your very detailed response.

I'm already using Hiya, the option to block all unwanted calls, but that's not enough. I get about ten a day...

Rejecting masked calls is complicated because I'm waiting for several professional responses and I don't know the numbers of potential recruiters... That's why I still answered today. Usually, I only answer numbers that I know, which are saved in my contacts. Moreover, it’s not just 06 and 07 numbers but also landlines, sometimes from my region, sometimes from Paris, sometimes from other regions that call me.

I have even more spam calls than spam emails. It’s something!

Hello,

Most of the time, these are automatic and simultaneous telemarketing calls (if someone picks up faster than you, there's no one on the other end).

I haven't found any other way to deal with them than to block them individually (in total several dozen, yet it's still mostly the same numbers that keep calling).

There’s no reason they should be charged even if we answer.

I have no reason to answer a call from an unknown number starting with 01, 02, or 03 when I'm in the 04 area code, but your situation might be different.

Hello,

Thank you for your response.

For me too, it's the 04. But I often have 01, so Paris or the Paris suburbs.

Hello

We can't know them all because they change their numbers for cold calls. But they must now respect certain hours; I have recent ones in 04, Paris where I've identified a "shop" that's a bit too persistent, all starting with 04 24 13. They should no longer use 06 or 07.

I also report on websites those who hang up when you answer or say nothing; we can't spend all our time reporting either.

From time to time, it's good to clear the advertising cookies on certain websites we've visited when the number of calls increases.
