Damaged Wifi Antenna

Hello,

I have a big problem with the Wi-Fi antenna of my Gigabyte Aorus Elite Ax v2 motherboard, as one of the cables has come off one of the two ports of the antenna.
I managed to put it back on a bit, but now I still have Wi-Fi signal, which is consequently very weak.
What can I replace the antenna with?
Would a model like this one be suitable?

It looks exactly like the antenna I already have, but will it be compatible with the motherboard or does it need to be exactly the same model that came with the motherboard?

Or will this model be sufficient?

Thank you

    Hello,

This kind of damage can be repaired... if you are meticulous and capable of making fine and clean soldering... You can also find replacement coaxial cables... Anyway.

The "Aliexpress" solution seems a bit better to me with an antenna gain of 8 dBi... while the one from Amazon is 6 dBi.

SMA plugs and connectors are standardized... and even from Amazon or elsewhere, they come from there.

But yes, you can replace it with that.

    I ordered this Wifi antenna:

    https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B0B2DD5K5H/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_slice_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Unfortunately, I realized afterward that the standard was 802.11 b/g/n/ac which supports Wifi 5, while my motherboard supports 802.11ax, which allows access to Wifi 6.

So with the antenna I ordered, it won't be possible to benefit from Wifi 6, only from Wifi 5 if I understood correctly.

Or does the standard of the antenna not matter, and will Wifi 6 be activated?

OK, no panic before the time... The antennas are almost identical... We need to try and see...

It's mainly the card that processes this signal and, in my opinion, it won't make much difference... Anyway, you shouldn't get too carried away with WiFi 6... Is your BOX capable of it?? And WiFi 5 is already pretty good... if you can tell the difference...

Moreover, in many cases, 2.4 WiFi is much better; because it has a longer range.

I hope this won't keep you up at night...

    A+++

Indeed, I have a Livebox 5, so it does not manage Wifi 6 unless we add a Wifi repeater (paid or free depending on the plan and of course a 10€ activation fee), so the question of the antenna standard is no longer relevant, I will only have Wifi 5.

As for whether it will keep me awake at night, of course it will because I am an extremely worrysome person and the slightest issue like this, even if in the end it is unnecessary, gives me sleepless nights.

Moreover, I noticed that one of the two ports where the antenna connects to the motherboard, I don't know the precise name of these ports, has some play.

    One more issue.

I don't know if it can be tightened or not, and since I am not handy at all, I am afraid of making more mistakes than anything else.

Anyway, thank you for your help and for trying to reassure me.

    Yes, simply... and it works.

For the antenna that moves, on its base, just tighten the nut; or find a good friend who is willing to do it... Simply..!!

    See you later!
