My PC types * by itself

Hello, I have a problem with my PC. I can't do anything at all because it's typing "*" by itself. I tried to start, go to settings, then update and security in the search bar, and it keeps writing stars even though I'm not asking for anything, and then I can't do anything because the page closes by itself. It's impossible to do anything with my PC. Can you help me? Thank you, I'm running Windows 10.

Power cycle the computer

When your computer keyboard types letters or numbers by itself, it sometimes happens that a temporary software bug is the cause of the malfunction. Try power cycling your computer by doing the following:

  1. Turn off your computer
  2. Unplug it from its power source
  3. Wait for about 2 minutes
  4. Plug your PC back into its power source and turn it back on...

Unplug the keyboard to see if it still types *

If not, the problem might be hardware-related.

...and how long has this been going on? As fabul mentioned, which I acknowledge, it could be a hardware issue. Make sure your keys are not stuck too far down in their housing.

Your (*) is indeed the one from the numeric keypad?
