Hello

I just acquired a new computer with Windows 11, my printer doesn't seem to be compatible, it's an old Canon Pixma MP 550, and it works very well

Do you have a solution?

Thank you

Download and install --> Revo Uninstaller
Run it as an administrator
Uninstall everything related to Canon printer products
Carefully follow the tutorial to uninstall everything properly, including residual folders and keys.
For the residual scan, check --> advanced mode
Restart the PC.

Disconnect the USB cable from the PC
Turn on the printer
Launch the driver setup --> mp68-win-mp550-1_05-ea24.exe
Connect the cable to the PC as soon as you are prompted.

 Run the driver setup?

The driver you downloaded --> mp68-win-mp550-1_05-ea24.exe
Edit: This one --> MP550

Hello,

It shouldn't be recognized since there is no Windows 11 driver.

However, this discussion states that the Windows 10 driver works, and that it is therefore sufficient to download it from Canon and install it manually; the functionality of the scanning part under these conditions remains controversial.

Still the same issue with Microsoft links. Search for "My Canon MP550 printer is not recognized", thread on Microsoft answers

Hello

What seems strange to me is that I can see my printer, I can use the scanner, but I cannot print.

On the Canon website, there are no updates for Windows 11.

Hello,

Download this driver --> MP550
Right-click on the driver setup --> mp68-win-mp550-1_05-ea24.exe
Resolve compatibility issues

Hi

Contrary to what has been written, there is indeed a driver for this printer under W11 (after clicking on Windows Update (and waiting) in the driver selection window)

Curiously, there are actually two under W11

Have you tried both?

Hello,

A printer, like any peripheral, only works with an operating system if the hardware manufacturer provides a driver, which a number of manufacturers are happy to skip.

Upon checking, the W11 driver is not mentioned by Canon's customer service.

https://www.canon.fr/support/consumer_products/products/fax__multifunctionals/inkjet/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp550.html?type=drivers&language=&os=windows+10+%2864-bit%29

Do you have a solution?

Writing a driver is not within the reach of forum subscribers as it requires not only certain programming skills but also the transmission of data from manufacturers that they do not release.

If you had contacted Canon's support, it is not certain they would have mentioned preparing updates for their older hardware, even for the previous generation.

The only known solution is to run both versions of Windows in parallel (dual boot or virtualization). Both "solutions" are impractical as printing can only be done on files that have been previously saved.

In summary, I am skeptical about digital tricks that would allow substituting for a deficient industrial pathway.

I looked online, is it possible to upgrade to Windows 10?

I don't know much about it.

Thank you.

In most cases, you cannot "downgrade" (you can only install another version in parallel), especially to solve a driver issue, because there are a good dozen others managing the internal devices of your PC, which will no longer work.

Changing vital settings on a computer can only be done if you have spent years learning the ins and outs of micro-computing, or have intensively followed the advice or warnings found on forums like CCM among others. And never, in my opinion, on new hardware.

But you can wait for other opinions.

Hello,

On a a broader level, everyone on this forum is going to be up in arms about the end of Windows 10 updates in 2025.

From an economic standpoint, it wouldn’t be free since we would either need to purchase a Windows 10 license (I know, the price is symbolic), or stick with Windows 11 and buy the Windows 10 compatible driver (or the replaced version) for this printer on VueScan, if it exists.

The process does indeed require a certain level of technical know-how.

We need to ensure on the manufacturer’s website that all drivers are compatible with Windows 10 and if so, download them onto external media, and then create a Windows 10 installation media on a USB drive, format the PC, and proceed with the installation.

Of course, we should also have a Windows 11 installation key handy and back up the Windows 11 drivers to return to the initial situation in case anything goes wrong.

If one lacks technical skills and the time to attempt the operation without guarantee, it’s quicker to just buy a new printer.

Hello,

And to have a little fun, I suggest switching to Linux, that works too...

The end of updates for Windows 10 doesn't seem like a big deal to me; in any case, it doesn't keep me from sleeping...

How can you know what's possible or impossible while ignoring the brand and model of the PC...

-- Personally, I think there are people who have managed to get this type of printer working on Windows 11; it would surprise me a lot if the opposite were true among a billion somewhat tech-savvy users...

-- Here’s a video showing how to install a Canon printer in another way:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWNDZ9B29K8

In my opinion, browsing the web with the question in English significantly increases the chances of finding a solution... it takes time and patience.

Here’s an example:

https://www.driverguide.com/driver/download/Canon-MP550-Series

https://www.driverguide.com

They say it’s compatible with Windows 11... (I can’t verify) you can try it...

That said, this is an indirect method of enforcing automatic obsolescence... or of eliminating hardware that’s a bit older... not everyone drives a Tesla..!!

Hello ....

Have you tried to do what Billmaxime suggests ► Here (the links don't even work in comments anymore ... getting better and better...!) ► See what Billmaxime recommends in post #5 above)

The driver known for Windows 11 is not the one for a Canon Pixma MP 550, but for a Canon MP 550 Series

Before I part with the printer or do anything rash, personally, I would do this...!

It will take you 15 minutes, and you'll have clarity ....!

Cheers

It's a bit of a problem with these printers, they use two port addresses... on the same... One goes to the printer and the other to the scanner... Very often, it's the other way around, we can print but not scan...

-- What did you use to install it..??

-- Is it connected via USB, Wifi, or another method..?

-- Is it properly listed in the "Printer Control Panel"..??
