USB antivirus: how to install it on my PC?

Hello!
- I bought an OEM W10, and I don’t see Defender in the list of installed programs under 'Programs and Features'; shouldn’t it be there?
- And when I search my disk with the term DEFENDER.EXE, I just get this:
amd64_windows-defender-service_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.19041.746_none_a39f6d9ab59bd8b7_msmpeng
amd64_windows-defender-service_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.19041.746_none_a39f6d9ab59bd8b7_mpcmdrun
amd64_windows-defender-nis-service_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.19041.1_none_d3e3ad84b24cfdfe_nissrv
Can you tell me what these lines correspond to?
So I went to download DEFENDER on the Internet. However, I had to put it on an external drive (USB), but I can’t find any tutorials on what to do with this drive, how to transfer the files to my computer, whether to group them in a folder or not, and maybe open the .exe there; or run the .exe from the drive... in short, I don’t know what to do.
I would also like to have instructions on how to properly configure the DEFENDER antivirus in 'Group Policies', please, thank you very much!
URGENT PLEASE because I don’t have any antivirus on my PC and I’ve already had quite a few problems, including a Trojan, which I eliminated with Malware Bytes, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Hello,
Windows Defender is built into Windows and does not appear in the list of programs or applications.
It can be disabled by a virus...or by another antivirus.
If you want it to reappear, you need to uninstall Malware Bytes, it will reactivate itself, it's either cheese or dessert, never two antivirus at the same time.
None of these products protect against the deliberate behavior of the user against it (questionable sites, attachments...) -
Hello.
Windows Defender is installed by default on Windows 10, so your PC indeed has Windows Defender. It’s normal that it’s not listed among the installed programs since it's integrated into Windows 10. To find it, go to the settings of Windows, then to update and security, and then to Windows security.

Hello
being integrated into W10, you have it by default.
but not in "Programs and Features"
it's in "Update and Security" under the "Windows Security" tab.
you should also have a small upward arrow for hidden icons in the taskbar at the bottom right, and by clicking on it, you should see a small shield which is Windows Defender.
Best regards

Hello everyone,
Thank you!
Bruccine: thank you! Yes, I have of course uninstalled MalwareByte. I have indeed activated the display of the icon today.
What made me doubt, especially, is that it did not appear in 'Programs and Features'; bazfile, thank you, just gave me a response on this topic, corrado as well, thank you.
However, yes, I went to check "Update & Security" in the "Windows Security" tab: but it doesn't appear there either, I looked at some tutorials and yes, it is there in their tutorials, but not on my PC, that's why I have these questions, due to all these somewhat contradictory/intuitive elements. And since it's an OEM and I've never had so many problems since I bought it, I'm wondering: my PC really behaves as if it doesn't have an active antivirus.
However, I am still interested in the answer to this question:
"So I went to download DEFENDER from the Internet. However, I had to put it on an external drive (USB), but no matter how hard I search, I can’t find any tutorials on what to do with this key, how to transfer the files to my computer, whether to group them in a folder or not and maybe open the .exe there; or execute the .exe from the key... anyway, I don’t know what to do."
Thanks again!

It's labeled Windows Security not Windows Defender, this is what you should see:

Hello yes, I have all that. What surprises me is that, apart from the logo in the bottom right of the toolbar, I have no other indication anywhere, I’ve searched everywhere, with DEFENDER explicitly mentioned, like when you go to 'virus and threat protection' and there you have control to enable or disable defender. Like in the tutorials, there is a Windows Defender location, and you can enable or disable it with a single click.
Furthermore, I’ve always been able to go to the root .exe, where there was a DEFENDER file, and there when I search for DEFENDER, I trace back to the Windows folder, but in a subfolder WinSxS, I’ve never seen that, and the most is that this folder contains no files with DEFENDER in the name, only a bunch of files like this:
unamd64_3ware.inf.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.19041.1_fr-fr_9df6955d7d2d9783
And when I type defender.exe, I find the 3 files mentioned in my first message. Anyway, I can't find the defender executable.
Windows Defender is active on your PC; there apparently are no issues. To verify this and, above all, to reassure yourself, please do the following.
Download FRST. Once downloaded, save it to the desktop, then right-click on FRST and choose Run as administrator. You will see this:
Click on Scan
Warning, wait for the messages indicating that the scan is complete.
Okay, I'll do that, thanks! How do you attach images, please?
I have another question that has always intrigued me: why all these unnecessary duplicates, I think, on W10? For example, I have 2 folders in programs: one 'Program Files' dated 05/17/20230 and one 'Program Files (x86)' both created on 12/07/2019 at the same time and containing nearly the same folders and programs? Can I delete one or merge them?
Thanks again!

: Why all these unnecessary duplicates, I wonder, on W10? For example, I have 2 folders in programs: one 'Programs' dated 17/05/20230 and one 'Programs (x86)'
Programs x86 is for 32-bit applications and Programs is for 64-bit applications.
Can I delete one, or merge them?
No, definitely not. Avoid messing with Windows or you'll run into problems; each folder has its use and must be kept.
Thank you!
WHEN I browse to attach the First files, nothing happens, not even an error message, etc. just nothing, as if I hadn't made any attempt to attach a file.
PS: in the link, they say to 'click on the insert button' for the window to appear: what is this button please?
EDIT: I mean there is indeed an 'insert' button on the keyboard, but I don't think that's it (I tried anyway but it doesn't work)
Oops sorry I got it...
PS: In the link, they say to 'click on the insert button' for the window to appear: what is that button please?
Thank you lol sorry, my dyslexia is more overwhelming some days and I miss the obvious... sorry
Tell me what I need to look for in the FIRST reports since I can't manage to use PJJOINT please thank you, I did exactly like in your screenshot, but I assure you nothing happens details: I click 'choose file', I click on the chosen file, I confirm and... nothing. Maybe it doesn't accept files with certain extensions? Do I need to convert it?
For FRST, since you can't do it, just forget it; anyway, since on your PC Windows Security is identical to the image of my message 8, it means everything is OK.
Hello
Open your USB key, open the window to see its contents and double-click on the installer (you will likely need to provide administrator rights). That’s the basics, right? What more do you want to know? It’s not a forbidden question but it doesn’t really make sense. There are antivirus programs independent of the operating system, but Windows Defender is not one of them. It installs like any program on Windows.
Just make sure that the version you retrieved is clean. Nothing worse than installing an antivirus downloaded from a dubious site.
But, well, as it has been said, the software is already installed on the operating systems that support it and what you are doing is unnecessary.-
I don't understand you at all.
If one day I want to use this method to install antivirus from a USB stick on a computer, and IF that is possible, I would like to know how to do it. No question is stupid, especially this one, and it makes sense. I don't see how it is not worthy of an answer. What does it have to do with MY computer and my original question? Nothing.
There's no point in getting worked up.
zelena_nina, Claude Lachance answered your question; you open the window for your key and you launch the executable, the .exe.
As bazfile said, it's like any other software.
But you are right to be interested; look at my signature, I work on a simple principle that when we don't know, we can't guess or make up.
And you're also right when you say that no question is dumb.
And even though using a USB key is not a bad idea, you have a simpler solution that consists of downloading directly onto the PC where you want to install.
All solutions are good as long as the result is there. 2x3=6 but 3x2=6 as well.
Afterward, the various participants don't understand why you want to install Windows Defender when it's already installed in any Windows.
If you had asked about Avast, AVG, McAfee, or any other third-party software, the question would have made more sense.
But that's just my opinion.
Sincerely yours

Everything has already been explained and re-explained, an antivirus is a software like any other, its installation is the same as any other software, this question of software installation doesn't really belong in the virus/security forum. If the answers given don't suit you, ask your question about software installation in the Windows forum, everything has been said and repeated, all answers have been given, I consider this post resolved.
