Hello specialists,
I requested a new SIM card (nano SIM) for my new phone.
I came across someone who told me they had changed the email address (the one known to this service being wrong) and was sending the new one by mail. So far, so good!

Then I changed my plan (2h/month at €0 since I am already a Free customer) and that’s when I learned that with this plan I wouldn't have WiFi.
So I switched to the plan at €15.90/month (that was the plan).

She told me to turn off and on my phone the next day for the new plan to take effect.
That’s when I encountered a problem.

But by doing this, I lost the network, "mobile network unavailable". I thought MY SIM card was deactivated.
Calling support (using my housekeeper's phone), I was indeed told that the SIM card was deactivated.
Except they can't "reactivate" it! It's crazy!!!

After shouting, they told me I have to wait for the new card and activate it. But how am I going to recover the data from the old one?
► And will I keep the same number, especially?
So I've been without a phone since Sunday, especially since I'm waiting for deliveries this weekend!!!!!!!!

My question (finally!)
► Do you have any tips to regain a connection since I don't have WiFi with this €2 plan?

Thank you very much as I am completely clueless about telecommunications!

Good evening,

Then I changed my plan (2h/month at €0 since I was already a Free customer) and that's when I learned that with this plan I did not have WiFi.

There is obviously WiFi with this card: the WiFi depends on the phone and not on the SIM card.

You must have misspoken. But I don't understand your problem.

The big issue with the €2 plan is the 50 MB of data, with which you can't do anything. Luckily, there's WiFi to access the Internet.
For me, this plan is for people who don't leave their homes and therefore use WiFi.

So while waiting to get a working SIM card, you can connect to your box via WiFi. But of course, without a SIM card, no phone or SMS/MMS.

What is well conceived is clearly stated,
And the words to express it come easily.

Hello Pierr10,
"There is obviously wifi with this card": are you sure? They told me the opposite. Besides, the few times I wanted to update Android, it didn't work, it kept looping.... and nothing.

"wifi depends on the phone and not on the SIM card": are you sure? It must not be activated by the operator (Free), right?
So how do I go about activating WiFi?

"For me, this plan is for people who don't leave their homes": that's me. I didn't use the internet either. That's why I don't know anything about phones; I only used it to make calls, send texts and MMS, and that's it! ! !

"you can connect to your box via wifi": and how do you do that? You’re reassuring me a bit here; I must say I haven't slept since this incident. Impossible to reach the hotline via the internet (I no longer have the 8-digit mobile identifiers).
I've said it before, I am completely hopeless with mobiles.

For me, going online means on the computer, end of story. The phone is too small.
And don't even get me started on building websites....

Thank you very much anyway!

Can you indicate the model and brand of the phone?

As for the wifi, I have it on an old smartphone in which there is no SIM card anymore.

On most smartphones, you pull down the notifications from the top of the screen and find the wifi icon which you click on. The search for networks begins.

On my smartphone:

If you don't have the icon, you can also enable the wifi from the smartphone settings:

Settings > Connections > Wifi

Hello Pierr10,
It was bought for me when I was in the hospital, and knowing that it was just a call and receive low-end phone: it’s a Wileyfox.
By the way, I took a picture of the QR code for the WiFi of my router, but I don't know what to do with it? It's on the phone.

By the way, it sees the WiFi network of my router among others, but it cannot connect to it.
Since I don't know how to use it.... actually, that's also my problem, that's why I said it didn’t have WiFi functionality.

PS: at first I deleted all the possible apps, the ones that could be uninstalled...

Thanks again!

"Connect to your Wi-Fi box"

  1.     Turn on and access your phone's Wi-Fi settings.
  2.     Select the Wi-Fi network of your box.
  3.     You will need to enter your box's Wi-Fi password. (let us know if you need help at this point, by default it is underneath the box)
  4.     Click the "Connect" or "OK" button and you're good to go.

"For me, this plan is for people who don't leave their homes"

Not at all. I use Free's €2 plan to have secondary phone numbers with data turned off and 2 hours of calls. It's handy for dual SIM use, for example, putting this number on silent when you get home from work, etc. Or when you don't want to give out a directly reachable number, it can act like a "beeper" or an answering machine for the categories of people you want to filter at inappropriate times (clients, colleagues, administration, leboncoin ads, etc.)

Hello,

The way you use the €2 plan is interesting, but it's marginal.

The majority of users of this plan are people who do not use the Internet outside of their homes. The plan works very well for them for low phone usage and for sending SMS/MMS.
Problems arise when these people leave their homes and do not have Wi-Fi. I saw this with one of my relatives who was hospitalized. She immediately switched her plan to the €15.99 one to stay in touch with her loved ones.

Hello Pierr10, until today it was more than enough for me, just texts and MMS + calls obviously!
By the way, now that I know WiFi has nothing to do with the SIM card (I thought with this type of plan it would block WiFi) I'm wondering if I should go back??? (2 hours/month for €0 is not bad...) .

Hello Djinnx,
Thank you very much for these details but there is nothing under the server box or under the player.
Ah! I was entering the password for the Free email account.
► Where can this password be found?

"You will need to enter your WiFi password for the box": is it the password or the WiFi key?
The key is very long. Is it the password to enter?
Best regards!

Yes, sorry, it's the Wi-Fi key! You need to enter these numbers. You can also change them by connecting to your box with your admin code (at the address 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 using a browser)

As for the WiFi QR code, it’s an option that some phones may have. Instead of entering the "WiFi key," you can directly scan the QR code with your phone (in the WiFi connection options).

Hello everyone!
That's it! I managed to activate WiFi on my current phone (SIM deactivated).
But I tried calling 3244 (last call) and it still says "mobile network not available".

So, activating WiFi on my phone doesn't help me call someone?
Thanks anyway for this tip from Djinnx.

Best regards!

With pleasure,

You cannot make "traditional" calls without a valid SIM card inserted into your phone. However, it is possible to use applications such as Hangouts, Messenger, etc. to make free calls/chat via WiFi (audio, video, text) to an email address (Messenger to Messenger, Hangout to Hangout) (or to numbers with a Skype subscription). With some recent phones, it is possible to use WiFi as a network antenna in case the GSM network is unavailable. However, even in this case, an active SIM card is required.

Hello Djinnx,
I learned it the hard way. I have internet access (verified with CCM). That's already something! Now I have WiFi activated on my phone, I can see it with others.
Best regards!
