Gimp for folded cut book templates

Nathou -

Hello,

I would like to know how to use the GIMP software to create my own folding/cutting book templates based on an image or text, etc. I know there's something to do with layers, but after that, it's a mystery? Each time I want to create a template, I'm asked between 3 and 5 euros for it to be made. I want to clarify that I'm not doing this for profit since it's to please my friends and family.

Thank you to the kind soul who will reply and shed some light on my query :)

    Hello,

I saw on some sites that to make the patterns for folded cut books, people use GIMP with layers to take measurements in order to create their own customized patterns without having to pay between 3 and 4 euros for the patterns. The sites you provided, I already know them and I thank you for the information.

      Hello,
I think I have understood the project after watching some videos. I was not familiar with the practice.

If the main difficulty is measuring, the best way is to practice as this video suggests:

If the request is more about transforming a photo into a pattern, I suggest my video regarding scrolling (a practice for creating wooden pieces). For the measurements, you will likely need to use a grid display, guides, and a compass (in millimeters):

You can create patterns with LibreOffice Draw or GIMP. In both cases, the main difficulty lies in becoming familiar with the software. It's a bit like not knowing how to drive a car and asking for advice on a forum about how to perform a parallel park. It is only once you have fully grasped the practice of a software that you understand how to manipulate it.

I hope I have better understood your request.

      Sincerely,

      Miguel Pineau
