Hi,

I currently have an MSI H170 Gaming M3 motherboard with an LGA 1151 socket and an i5 6600.

I would like to know if I could install an i7 9900k, knowing that the socket is the same (LGA 1151), as I am afraid of buying it unnecessarily. Thank you in advance for your response.

    Hello.

Not compatible, these two processors are from different generations, your motherboard only supports sixth generation processors, not ninth generation processors.

      Hello

I believe that the most powerful processor in this series was the i7 6800K...

You can also install one from the 7th generation, such as the i7-7700K, provided that the BIOS has been updated if it hasn’t been done already.

Note: the i7 6800K is equipped with a 2011-v3 socket.

Indeed, well spotted, I hadn't noticed.
