Error "The network security key is incorrect. Please try again."

Solved

Hello,

It's rather rare for me to come and ask questions on a forum myself. However, this time, I find no resolution to the problem, anywhere.

So here is my problem:

As in the title, my error "The network security key is incorrect. Please try again" appears when I try to connect my desktop PC to the wifi network (Livebox 5 Fiber). However, I know for sure that the password works.
While waiting to resolve the issue, I have connected via powerline adapter, but since I'm not on the right phase, the connection is poor...

The information I can provide:

  • I was able to connect, at the same time, 2 of my laptops that have a similar network configuration and of course with the same WIFI key.
  • I can connect via WIFI to other devices with this desktop PC.
  • An error of the same nature also appears when attempting to connect via WPS

Solutions already attempted:

  • Rebooting the PC
  • Rebooting the Livebox
  • Turning firewalls on/off
  • Resetting the wifi

    Hello everyone,

In the end, it's quite a strange thing...
I just changed the antenna of the wifi card and it strangely fixed the issue...

Let's see if it stays resolved, but that's the response I can provide you.
    Thank you for your help.

I must not have explained myself well.

The wifi key entered is indeed the correct one; unfortunately, this error message still appears and prevents me from connecting.

I have typed it in numerous times, and I am sure I did not make a mistake.

    Hello,

On your Livebox 5, there is a label with the first 8 alphanumeric characters that correspond to the Wi-Fi password.

Source : Livebox 5, identify the name and the Wi-Fi security key

      Hello,

Thank you for your response, unfortunately this answer does not meet my request. I have already entered these numbers.

There are no other answers than the one already stated. The security key is indeed the one I indicated to you, at least the first alphanumeric characters. You have the Orange contract that outlines the procedures to set up your Box, and the credentials to connect it.

I have a Livebox 4. The methodology is the same except that I am still on ADSL.

If the problem is material, check with Orange.

      Hi

By the way, the first 8 characters correspond to the password for accessing the box’s configuration, not to the Wi-Fi security key for which you need to enter ALL the characters unless you use WPS.

It’s also surprising that even with WPS it tells you that the key is incorrect?

Did you leave the encryption on auto on the PC?

Did you try to "forget" the connection and redo it?

Is the driver for your Wi-Fi card up to date?

Are you connecting to 2.4 or 5 GHz?

    Hello,

Normally with a Livebox5, there's no need to enter the code... just press the WPS button.

Hello, thank you for your response.

Unfortunately, I had already tried this method, as mentioned earlier in my statement.
      Here is the result:

Well, when you get the first message, that's when you need to press the WPS button to get the code directly.

Exactly, it's when I press that this first message appears
Or maybe, I'm not sure I understand how it works...

Sorry.. now the box is waiting and asking for the code

First, you need to start the WIFI connection process on your PC, until it asks you for the code, and then press the WPS button on the box

It's much simpler than with the Livebox 4. Thank you baladur13.

    Hello,

If I were you, I would reinstall Windows; there seems to be something stuck in its throat.

You can already remove the Wi-Fi card or install another driver, but I don't really believe in that.

What’s certain is that the firewall doesn’t intervene at that level, unless you’ve installed some exotic antivirus (other than Windows Defender), in which case you can encounter all sorts of issues.

    And there you go....

But goodness, those line breaks are so annoying!!

      Thanks for your reply!

Do you think reinstalling Windows will help when I can connect with other Wi-Fi networks? I would like it to be the last resort since it can be a bit of a hassle haha.

Brupala whom I greet has spoken. There are no other solutions. You practice the... "step back to jump better"!

You always have to be ready for that; it can always happen.

Having up-to-date backups is a rule, but you can also reinstall it without losing your data (still risky though).

Before reinstalling, there's also the repair option.

If you want to convince yourself further, try with a Live USB Linux
