Linux Android TV

Hello,

I would like to install Ubuntu server on an Android TV box.

The model is MXq Pro 4k (MXQPRO_V72)

The problem is that I am really just starting out in this field. My goal would then be to create a small personal server with it, like with a Raspberry Pi. The box basically consists of a simple board with 4 USB ports, 1 HDMI port, 1 Ethernet port, 1 SD port, and a power port.

It apparently runs on Android 10.1.

During my research, I found some leads like the terms AMLOGIC S905W ARMBIA

Thank you in advance

    Hello,

You need to make sure that Ubuntu supports the hardware present in the said box. I’m referring you to this article which basically says "it depends". From what I understand from this discussion, an armbian (and therefore more generally an ARM version of Linux) should be able to install on your Android TV model. So I guess that Ubuntu server for ARM could work.

Before you dive into that, maybe you should think about the reasons that are pushing you to replace Android with Linux (is it worth it?). In particular, by default, you won’t have a graphical interface (unless you install one) with Ubuntu server. It might also be worth your while to get some hands-on experience with Linux (for example on a PC, even if it means using a virtual machine).

    Good luck
