Hello!

My usual email address dates back to the early days of messaging. The domain is infonie.fr. Infonie has been gone for a long time, after having had various owners (Alice, Free, etc.....).

That said, everything still works, but I'm worried. Can anyone tell me if this domain name will last over time ???? I’m not quite sure how this works.

If someone could enlighten me, that would be nice.

Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

All these companies are now owned by Free. It is therefore this company that manages the domain names and servers, which are probably shared among all the sites. Free currently has the broadest understanding of ownership and retention of email accounts. Because when the law states that an email account must last at least 6 months after the termination of an internet subscription, Free retains them indefinitely.

I have a Free account that dates back to the very beginning of the company, not linked to an internet subscription.

So we can hope that in case of a policy change one day, a warning will be issued well in advance.

    A ping to mail.infonie.fr gets a response from a sister site: mail.libertysurf.net [212.27.48.4]

There is still a Webmail access at: https://webmail.aliceadsl.fr//

But is there an account configuration access? infonie.fr directly points to Free, is it possible to log in at https://subscribe.free.fr/login/ with your email account xxx@infonie.fr and its password?

Is it necessary or just prudent to create or migrate to an email address independent of an ISP? Each to their own answer.
