How to manage ZTE over Ethernet

Hello,

I haven't had internet for 7 days... SFR is kind of freaking out and I'm grieving..!

I got a temporary 4G, using a ZTE MF920U WiFi... it works on a few posts via WiFi, but I would like to connect it to my network, via RJ45 and with changed LAN IPs, so everything works again... How can I do that? Or would it be better to buy something more suitable??
Thank you in advance

Hello,

You need a device that can connect, on one side, as a WiFi client, and on the other, to an Ethernet network via RJ-45.

Generally, a wireless access point in "client" mode can do that.

Otherwise, if you have a laptop with WiFi + RJ-45, it can also be done through a "bridge" between the two network interfaces.

Hello,

It seems that it can also connect via USB, like a smartphone.

After that,

I think you have the right to demand a proper 4G router with Ethernet ports from SFR.

and ... There you go!
But goodness, how annoying the line spacing is!!

Hello,

Okay, thanks for your contribution... I'm having a lot of trouble maintaining a wifi connection... Through USB, I don't see anything appearing, I think it's not working??

Of course, a 4G router with ethernet ports would suit me well, I'll try to reach out to them.

I find this outage quite strange... it was working fine for 5 years... and suddenly, there are four outages in the street, with different ISPs??

My post won't send; it says "undefined" on the forum

So, I'm still without service and SFR has scheduled an appointment for me on 31-08 between 10:00 and 11:00... I doubt it will be resolved in an hour... They must have a lot of outages to take this long..??

Anyway, they lent me a 4G modem but the speed is abysmal... I followed the advice and bought an LTE router with 4 ethernet ports... It works much better (with antennas) and I can recover my wired setup from the switch..

As for the USB connection, I haven't managed to get a whisper of it..!!

There are quite a few construction works around here, all over the place, to "install fiber", I think there's a lot of connection mixing with collateral damages... and they need time for all these interpolations..

This is mainly to inform about the situation, there must be quite a few people in the same boat..??

For the USB,

there are some documents that are incorrect then:

Is the port only for charging?

Maybe it's Windows that doesn't detect the plug&play correctly.

But well, if you found something that works for you, that's great.

The port indeed has the four conductors... so probable data, the attached little guide also provides the USB connections... The documentation is not necessarily wrong..?? but I couldn't manage... nor did I look further; upon connection, it is not detected, no sign or noise.

But I found my solution which seems quite good to hold me over until next week... unless there's a delay.

This way, I'll have a spare wheel in my bag... Just need to see about the SIM card for these temporary cases...

Well,

they're sending you the help with the right SIM card, I hope. I assume you got it back to use in the one you bought....

But don't forget to return it to them, of course ;-)

In any case, they can block it whenever they want.

I hadn't thought about it anymore, but I came across a little USB "modem" like that for backup at Orange too, like many USB /3/4G adapters today. Inside, there's a "disk" partition with the drivers and a utility to install them, but here the documentation mentions direct recognition, and for the Orange gadget, the installation procedure was indeed written (in very small print) in the documentation.

I got the SIM card very quickly, in the ZTE... and I did exactly as you said... I shouldn’t forget otherwise there will be a penalty..

They mention it in their manual, but I think there must be variations with the versions, I haven't seen any trace of files either.. I think something is happening online, directly at startup..??

I'm leaving the POST open while waiting for the final fix.

Hello,

Here is a good example of my internet backup on 4G

After searching for the best reception spot, I had much less glorious moments with 0.5 megabytes of speed... And this is possible with a 4G router with Ethernet outputs... You can place it in the best spot (on a cabinet) and connect it to the network installation with the cable... The initial ZTE loaned cannot do that... But well, it's still good anyway.

I have a visit from the super tech tomorrow...31-08.... I have been in "cutoff" since the 18...

I had an appointment with a "super tech"... No one showed up, not a message... nothing... the hotline chat is going in circles and biting its tail... what is this mess..??

What to do..?? Any advice..?? Even on the Red SFR Forum, I can't find where to ask a question...

Surely the tech, if he's really great, noticing where the defect was, didn't think it was worth coming to your place, in any case, super but super rude :-(

Or maybe a super tech doesn't exist, take your pick.

Here is the end of the story, I hope, after numerous visits from "Super tech"... Who literally messed up my wiring... it's finally working again, with the same speed... a month later.

The cause would be... a power cut or disconnection on the SFR line, in the local exchange... it's a kind of small house filled with junction panels for the lines and a good number of similar electronic cards, mounted in racks... there you go.

I'm still a bit skeptical about the explanation, but the result is there, and at least, they showed up.

Curiously... the same people come to my house with different hats and vehicles with different company names.

Once it's for the continuity of the line in the house, passing the buck to Orange if the fault is external, and later, the same person comes back to do the external Orange intervention... that he wasn't authorized to do in the previous days...

We live in a curious world... with bureaucratic procedures... relayed down to the grassroots on the ground...!!!

Hello,

I didn't understand whether it was a fiber or ADSL connection, but in any case, by testing at the back of the DSLAM or the OLT, they could have seen that it was malfunctioning well before; it's one of the first things to check when doing troubleshooting in good faith (more difficult on fiber because GPON can impact up to 128 clients, unlike ADSL which only impacts one or 16/32 at worst if an entire card is down).

But well,

when we have several clients down on a DSLAM or an OLT, we immediately suspect the equipment in question, not what's beyond it.

The small house is called a copper NRA and a fiber NRO.

It's a copper VDSL2 connection ... during this summer period

Yes, I also pointed out the points I had checked... But I am not Approved in their eyes...

The number of people involved for each measurement... and it doesn't go any further, it's disarming

On 90% of devices, we start by checking if the power supply works... Yes, it's dispiriting...

Thank you for the additional information.

Well, I will close the subject on that...

Hello Jeannets, Breton colleague as I can see, Rennes and its metropolitan area! :)

Here is a new test that changes location with my newly repaired internet... read more below the image.

-- Yes, of course, but that’s a bit misleading... because the server is in Rennes... Moreover, since SFR lent me its 4G key, I am located in Rennes...??

I also noticed that Google Maps makes similar errors by hundreds of kilometers...

There you go, everything works again, like before, with my same BOX NB6V2... and I did return the ZTE without forgetting the SIM card...

If I summarize correctly, they took a month to reset a circuit breaker... The response time is not great... and quite costly.
