Android tablet under Android 4.0.3: updates fail and more

Hello / Good evening.

I had the opportunity to get an old Android tablet with a keyboard.

The famous Asus Eee Pad Transformer (TF101).

I should mention that I reset the said tablet.

To summarize:

- The firmware update gives me an error. -> Internet connection error or server busy. Please wait a moment and try again.

- Creating / logging into an existing Google account also gives me an error, saying that I didn't enter the correct username/password (even though I did).

Just to clarify: I do have internet on the said tablet.

I would just like to have the YouTube app (to start).

So I searched online and found the APK for the latest version of Android (4.0.3)

When launching it, YouTube informs me that I don't have the latest version.

So, this application is unusable.

I then found the APK of the OPERA browser for this version of Android: it works.

And thus, YouTube via OPERA: it works.

But I'm not really happy with that.

Is it possible to update Google Play Store and its services, to do what's necessary, so that I can finally install the latest application versions for this version of Android?

Or is there a true replacement for Google applications (especially the Play Store)?

Little anecdote: although I found the TeamViewer APK, for its use, it asks me to update Google Play services. arffffffffffffffffffffff

Thank you for your expert views :D

Hello.

If you have a version of Android 4.0.3, there are hardly any applications that work on this version of Android, which dates back to December 2011.

Good evening,

The multimedia tablet in my car (late 2018) is still running on... Android 4.04.

While digging a bit on APK archive sites, you can indeed only find a few applications that still work on it, Spotify, Waze...(still better than the default content, which is zero or just one commercial app from the manufacturer).

But Google Play doesn't work and crashes the tablet across all versions because it demands a "computing power" beyond what the device can handle, which has a processor as archaic as the Android version, and it must be disabled since crashing is also caused by any indirect call an application might make (updates...).

Lu'

Thank you all for your responses.

But Google Play itself does not work and crashes the tablet across all versions because it requires a "computing power" beyond the device's capabilities, which has a processor as archaic as the Android version, and it needs to be disabled since the crashes are also caused by any indirect calls that an application might make (updates...).

I feel like I have the same symptoms.

I can't perform any system updates or anything else.

Google Play is inoperative.

Nevertheless, with Opera, I can watch YouTube.

This solution - the only one for now - is sufficient for me.

So, another quick question: what is the lightest web browser for Android?

No idea.

Mine comes with the original Chrome browser, and I've only had to use it once or twice for initial settings or indirectly for applications that connect. It's as slow as a sick chicken for the reasons I've mentioned.

It's impossible to update Android from version 4, and it's completely illusory to want to run anything connected on it, starting with a browser, in an acceptable manner due to memory, processor, and possibly graphics rendering shortcomings. Even assuming that an outdated browser would accept connecting to most websites, which is far from guaranteed.

In the case that I'm interested in, the tablet's functions related to GPS and the car settings work perfectly, and it's integrated into the dashboard anyway; otherwise, it would have long since met the only fate it deserves: the trash.
