More thumbnails of my PDF file icons

Hello,

The thumbnails of the icons of my PDF files on my Windows 11 desktop have disappeared again, and there's no way to recover them; only one is still present.
I deleted the icon cache file and restarted the PC, but nothing has changed.
I am using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro 32-bit version.
Is there a solution to avoid this recurring display issue on the Windows 11 desktop?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hello,

You installed Adobe Acrobat DC Reader 9 version 32 bits
In this version, you do not have the option 'Enable PDF thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer'
The option was only available starting from version 9.32

Try this fix
Download --► Fixes for 64bit Adobe Reader
Link valid for 30 days

Unzip the archive with Winrar or 7-Zip

Or double-click the archive, Windows 11 will extract it.
Install --► Fixes_for_64-bit_Adobe_Reader_setup

Restart the PC.
Check if the PDF thumbnails are displayed.

This will modify a Windows registry key.

Although the fix is a bit old, it still works.

Another solution is to install another PDF reader.
For example PDF-XChange Viewer
Set it as default.
Then switch Adobe Acrobat 9 back as the default PDF reader.
Right-click on one of your PDF files
Click on --► Properties
Click on --► Change
Select from the list --► Adobe Reader 9.0 or Adobe Acrobat 9.0
Click on Apply then OK.

Hello,

Thank you for the help, but unfortunately this option is not available in Acrobat 9 Pro, so it's impossible to check this box.
Thank you very much, have a great day

Hello,

On the computer running Windows 11, if I check the "Always show icons, never thumbnails" option in Explorer, all my PDF files on the desktop display the Acrobat icon, but none of my image files show thumbnails, only the Windows viewer icon.

If I uncheck this option, all the PDF files on the desktop show nothing; however, I regain the thumbnails of my images.

On another computer running Windows 10, everything works fine, so the issue is indeed with Windows 11, as even with another PDF reader the problem persists.

There is clearly a bug issue with icon and thumbnail display in Windows 11.

Hello,

I'm not sure that Windows 11 is to blame.

My computer runs on Windows 11. On the desktop, the PDF icons show the thumbnails, whether it's the file itself or a shortcut.

This display is independent of the choice made in File Explorer. Currently, it's in details view. So the icon is the one from my PDF manager: Foxit Reader.

That's why I initially directed you to a solution regarding Acrobat Reader (which doesn't work for you).

Hello,

A solution without guarantee.

Go to Acrobat.
Click on Edit then Preferences.

In the General category, check Enable PDF thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer.

Remember to refresh the Desktop display.

What is well conceived is clearly stated,
And the words to say it come easily.
