I have multiple computers all connected via RJ45 to a network linked to a Freebox.
All have Internet access, all are authorized access and advanced sharing settings are normally configured.
But some are not visible in the "network" in Windows Explorer from the other machines on the network.
This poses a problem for file exchanges from one computer to another and for backups.
Does anyone know about this issue??
Thank you in advance.

Verify that all your computers are in the same workgroup... (By default, it's "Workgroup".. and it makes things easier)..
Then you can check that all the computers can see each other.. To do this, in console mode, you do a "ping" on the IP address of the computers.. (you will find the IP addresses in the administration window of the box)..
And then you need to see if all your workstations are running the same operating system (W7, W8, W10 or even W11!)
In this case, it is the computer with the most advanced OS that becomes the master explorer..
In the "network" group, you will have specialists to explain this better than I can..

Hi,
first of all, the strategy is not good:
It is not useful for everyone to access everyone's shares on the local network.
Generally, we choose a file server PC that hosts all the shared files and everyone else connects to it.
It's more secure, and centralization allows for easier and better-managed backups.
Then,
this is not a joke, it's just the random issues of Windows networking in workgroup mode, which have always been there; while it works well (thankfully for businesses) in domain mode, it has always been a mess in workgroup mode and more or less random.
There are rules to apply to improve this, but perfection is still not in this area.
The rules:
preferably a fixed IP address for a file server
configure network drives to access shares rather than relying on discovery.
Common user accounts if we are not using public folders to share files.

and ... There you go!

Afterwards,
as I said, it is not very useful for everyone to see each other on the network neighborhood, it can even be dangerous from a security standpoint.
Only those (servers) that have real network shares, well managed, are more than enough, but not everyone, if access to the shares is not managed.
