Good evening,
Because the procedure in question, which is documented everywhere on the Internet, is also reported to not work.
The only one reported to work involves acquiring a specific remote control, the URC-7781, which is as old as the device in question and therefore probably very difficult to find.

- You ask if the procedure works; everyone who has tested it online reports that it does not: this is just factual. It is also important to remember that there is no generic procedure for all Sony readers, meaning that what may work for one may not work for another, and some models are known to be very difficult, if not nearly impossible, to unlock.
The one in the link I mentioned would work provided you find the appropriate remote control.
But if, in the interest of being constructive, instead of copying and pasting, you have a solution of your own that at least one source says is operational, we are all ears.

Hello
Here is a procedure to follow, but I haven't tested it myself.
1. Do not put any DVD in and turn off the DVD with the remote control.
2. Press 12345 on the Sony remote, the DVD player should turn on by itself.
3. Wait for the message "No Disc" to appear.
4. Press 12345 again on the remote. The DVD player should turn off.
Insert the desired region DVD...
Please note, if you have many DVDs from different regions, you are only allowed 3 changes :-(
See you

If this answer helped you, a little click on the thumbs up, that’s great... If resolved, that’s perfect.

Well! Since I am the one who asked the question and I am not interested in pointless controversies. I will respond to Macintosh:
If I follow your procedure, after entering 12345 the first time, the reader does not turn on. So the procedure does not work. I would like to add that the reader in question is not "antique" since I bought it new at BOULANGER a month ago and the remote control is the original one.
Thank you all for your follow-up on my request. -
