Photo transfer

Hello,
I installed an SD card on my phone (Xiaomi Redmi 6A) some time ago because my internal memory was full. I’m not really sure what steps I took to install the card, but I was able to install apps again, etc. However, I'm now receiving the "storage space almost full" message again, even though my SD card isn't full at all (even though my internal memory is).
I was told to format my SD card, but I think I have a lot of photos on it (I don't know what goes on the SD card and what doesn't...)
To avoid losing my photos when I format the card, I wanted to transfer them to my computer by connecting my phone, clicking on "photo transfer," but only my internal memory appears. I still click on DCIM and see several folders, including one that seems to have the most photos (thumbnails), but they are arranged in a strange or disorganized way... In fact, I don't know where all my photos are stored (I feel like they are scattered everywhere) and if they are all there (camera, screenshots, WhatsApp images...).
I also tried a second method, Google Photos, but on my phone all the photos are there, the albums created, etc., but when I log in on the computer, I don’t even see a quarter of my photos... Also, I was worried that if I delete photos from the gallery, they would also be deleted from Google Photos afterwards (which wouldn’t be useful for me).
So, I seem to have outlined the extent of my problem (I really don't know much about this area).
Thank you in advance for your responses which will help me not to lose my photos and to no longer have a saturated storage space (which I don't understand because I have an SD card).
Best regards.

Hello
Actually, photos/images can be stored wherever you want, but you need to adjust the settings, and especially, this adjustment does not have a "retroactive" effect, meaning that what was in one place before the adjustment remains in the same place. It's up to you to manually move what was in the internal memory to the SD card.
For photos, the location setting is done in the camera/photo app.

In general, the app (Gallery, Google Photos, etc.) used to display images/photos synchronizes its content online, depending on what you set in it (visible in Account Settings)

You can, of course, use a USB cable connection to a computer to back up and move the images into the same folder. You also need to check both the internal memory and the SD card...

Generally (for Google Photos), synchronization only occurs in one direction, from Smartphone to the Internet, so anything deleted on the smartphone remains on the internet. This can be changed in the Google Photos settings.
However, Google Photos may display all the photos on the smartphone if the smartphone has internet access and fewer on the Google Photos site from the computer since it does not have access to the smartphone...

See you later

Hello
It should be noted that not everything gets moved.
Pictures and your documents, yes.
But emails, texts, call logs, image previews, etc. do not get moved, so it's best to do some cleaning regularly.
It is possible to move certain apps to the SD card, but this is only offered for installed apps, in settings, apps, storage...
The issue is that often they return to internal memory with each update.

Hello,
thank you very much for all your information which has helped me a lot, and sorry for my late reply...
I realized that my photos were indeed on my SD card, and that everything else was on my internal memory. The problem actually comes from the apps, which I cannot install on the card but only on the internal memory (which is full). So I should keep the internal memory just for the apps, but I don't know how to move everything else from my internal memory to my SD card...
thanks again for your reply.
