Debug LED DRAM lit, no display on screen.

Good evening,
I recently changed my CPU, for which I had to update my BIOS and remove one of my RAM sticks.

It turned on once, but it reached 95°C (its supposed maximum temperature), even without any applications running. So it was impossible to play a game.

As a result, I changed the thermal paste (there was too much) and reinserted the missing RAM stick.

When I try to turn it on, everything seems to be working (fans, including the cooler, are working, and the LEDs are on).
However, nothing is displayed on the screen, the CPU Ez Debug LED is lit, then turns off, and the DRAM LED lights up next and stays on.

I have tried:
- Removing and changing the RAM slots.
- Removing the graphics card. Then the SSD.
- Removing the BIOS battery to reset it.
- Performing a CMOS reset.

Nothing works, still a black screen and this DRAM Debug LED lit.

Here is my current setup:
CPU: R5 5600X (I had the 3 3200G before changing). And its cooler.
Motherboard: MSI B450 Tomahawk Max II.
GPU: GTX 1050Ti (which I will replace with an RTX 2060 next week).
RAM: 2×8GB DDR4 3200Mhz from Crucial.

I have tried all the solutions that worked for others who had this problem on this forum and others.

Have you installed the correct BIOS version compatible with Ryzen 5000?

What power supply (brand and model) do you have?

I took the latest version released, assuming it would therefore be compatible with the Ryzen 5000.
I found it on the manufacturer's website:
https://fr.msi.com/Motherboard/B450-TOMAHAWK-MAX-II .

The power supply is more than sufficient for a RTX 2060. If it's the correct version of the BIOS, check if the CPU is properly seated and if the CPU's P8 power cable is still securely connected.

Hello, I have checked but it’s still the same.
I was surprised to see the thermal paste in this condition, I don’t know if it’s normal considering it has hardly been used.

Indeed, your thermal paste looks strange. Start by cleaning it before putting on some fresh paste. For cleaning, you can use household alcohol (at 90°).

It seems to be working! The CPU isn't too hot (35-40°). Do you think I should try to put the missing RAM stick back in? I'm a bit afraid to do it since it could potentially be the cause of the problem, but 8GB is not great...
Thank you!

If I understand correctly, with only one barrette, it works. In which positions do you put your 2 barrettes? The following positions A1, A2 and B1, B2.

I put them in A2 B2. I tried other options, but it seems to me that the best thing is to place them in A2 B2.

These are indeed the positions recommended by the manufacturer. Try moving the working stick to see if it's the memory slot that's the issue.

I swapped the slots (B2 to A2) and it works, the 16GB is indeed detected. Thank you very much!
