Keyboard ribbon cable clips ACER ASPIRE E1-522

Hello,

While removing the connector cable from my keyboard on the motherboard, the locking clip (a plastic-type piece) broke.
I checked with ACER and this part is not sold anymore or is no longer available from them.

I'm desperately looking for parts of this type, but it's impossible; maybe by buying a motherboard, but without being sure that this locking clip for the connector would be on that motherboard.

Moreover, it might end up costing a lot for a small part worth 1 or 2 euros.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me.

For now, the laptop is working with an external USB keyboard.

Good evening,
Welcome to CCM
It would be ideal for you to post an image of this keyboard ribbon connector, but the important thing is that this connector is soldered to the motherboard, and the contacts are so close together that tinkering with it is futile from the start!
The key might be to find an identical motherboard, even if it's broken, and see if the locking clip is salvageable to replace the broken one.
An image would be helpful!
Best regards.

Hello,

An explicit photo would be welcome... because I fear that the so-called "locking clip" is actually the lock of the keyboard ribbon connector, with all its contacts...???

And I'm afraid that you are downplaying the role of this part...?

Hello and thank you for your messages. I am attaching photos of the part in question. As you can see, it is a small piece of plastic that blocks the keyboard ribbon on the motherboard. I do not underestimate the role of this part, quite the opposite. I would like to buy a new keyboard from Topclavier.com, but they tell me that this piece is part of the motherboard. It's sad to have to buy a motherboard for a piece that costs less than 1 euro...
I am also being suggested to use tape to hold the ribbon, but I don't know if it works or not. In any case, I tried, but the keyboard still doesn't work.

I am attaching the photos.

The problem would already be to know if this keyboard worked before...? Because if you went to check in that corner, it was for a reason...

-- It should be noted that these small connectors open and close by flipping this piece that locks the ribbon cable in position... each conductor of the ribbon is well aligned and pressed so that the contacts connect properly... you have to open them with a nail...

Check out this forum https://www.forum-des-portables-asus.fr/forums/threads/k75vm-nappe-clavier-deconnectee-au-niveau-de-la-cm.15007/
You should recognize your problem there and the keyboard connector that is yours..... I believe it’s in POST 5 and your image is on the left with the flap open...

The idea would be to find a supplier for these connectors... and you would just have to replace the flap, the movable part, I suppose the fixed part is not broken... but it should be possible to find...

Is yours a folding flap...? and not a sliding flap..?? How many contacts, what is the total size of the connector..??

Good evening Jeannets, and thank you for trying to help me with my problem.

I checked the relevant forum, but it only addresses issues encountered with "ASUS"; my laptop is an "ACER ASPIRE E1-522".
As you can see in the photo, it cannot be folded down; it is inserted into the motherboard socket just by "clip-in". Yes, it was working very well before it broke while I was disassembling the keyboard.
I was told that it could work with electrical tape, but that is not the case for now because I feel that I need to replace the keyboard, which can be found easily, but again, it is without this clip that is located on the motherboard.

Thanks again

Hello.

D.I.Y. = connect the ribbon cable to the connector and secure this ribbon with a piece of plastic sheet of thickness 0.5 mm to 1 mm (to be defined). Especially do not glue it but make it fit tightly to hold the ribbon cable in place. The width will be the same as that of the ribbon cable.

See you soon. . .

Well, thank you, but I think I’ve done much worse with my numerous manipulations. I did indeed put some tape on this tablecloth.

I no longer have any ignition at all now, I wonder if my recklessness or clumsiness hasn’t caused a much more serious problem of a general short circuit from static electricity...

I’m complaining, it’s true, I thought it would be a minor repair at first, and I’m left with a complete breakdown.

Thank you again for your responses to try to help me; Have a good evening.

It's not a problem with Acer or Asus when it comes to the connector...

Many car brands use Mitsubishi alternators and they work just fine..!

Your connector has 26 contacts, width unknown...
Your clip (branch photo) fits into the square section guides on both sides; by pushing it, it slides to the back and locks the ribbon...

Did I understand correctly?? Because your photos are distant, it's not macro..

Is there a trademark on this connector?? Because it definitely has a manufacturer...

Hello

If the PC is not continuously turned upside down in every direction, the clip is useless, the ribbon will stay in place; if it moves, apply the "jojolaguitare" method....

I think this is your connector

https://www.ebay.com/itm/172412870618?hash=item28249b9fda%3Ag%3AnSMAAOSw5cNYLsMR

It is a ZIF FFC/FPC 26 pin Drawer connector

I assume the sliding part (black here) can replace the one you broke

You can see the detailed plan on the thumbnail on the right... the square holes are 3x2 mm for example

It’s around $3 each and $1.79 for shipping, you can get three in case of accidents, you’ll still be within budget compared to buying another motherboard

Here’s what I would do... It's up to you to decide...

I sincerely thank you for the wonderful research work you have done for my problem; unfortunately, as explained a bit further up, nothing powers on now, not even the little blue LEDs indicating charging. My screen lit up and I had access to Windows thanks to an external keyboard.
I fear that a short circuit due to my numerous internal manipulations has been fatal to the laptop.

Once again, my sincere thanks ...

Pol

Yes, it's a bit like the navigator traveling around the world... there are plenty of surprises along the way... but well, not everything is necessarily lost...

-- The battery might be dead or the charger is not charging...? A broken wire in its sheath.
-- The on/off button isn't functioning...?
-- There are fuses on the motherboard... Several... one or two might have blown... during a Xy manipulation.
Here's a view of a working fuse:

in good condition

and blown on the board

Generally, they are soldered to the board.

Good evening,
To put it simply, as long as the contact of this sheet in its connector is not properly established, there’s no point in elaborating, it cannot work and there's no use in arguing!
Best regards.
