Hello,
It was possible in a previous version of Instagram, but not with the latest one.
So if you want to have the 'Add to Grid' option and you're on Android, just downgrade to this version:
https://instagram.en.uptodown.com/android/download/2380709
Attention:
- this is an apk, so you will need to give permission to install a third-party application that doesn't come from the store
- you must uninstall your current version before downgrading to this version
- this version did not yet include the central reels tab, so the only way to find your reel to click on it and put it back on the grid is to send it (before uninstalling) to a friend via Instagram's internal messaging. You will find it in the conversation
- once you have retrieved the reel on your grid, delete this old version and reinstall the latest one from the store
- don't forget to disable the permission for installing third-party applications
See you!

Indeed, it's a solution only for Android, but phew, I'm glad I came across your message!
Don't be afraid of the link; for me, it did nothing dangerous to my phone. I restored my reel, uninstalled the app as he said, and re-downloaded the new version from the Play Store.
Hello,
A much simpler method that I just implemented with the current version. You just need to delete your actual item; it will be placed in the trash (in settings-your activity-recently deleted) and retained for 30 days. Click on restore the item and it will automatically return to the grid.
