Hello,

I think my SSD has failed and I would like to replace it with a newer, faster, and compatible M2. However, I admit I'm a bit lost...

I currently have an Asus ROG laptop with a SanDisk X400 SSD M.2 2280 256GB (TLS Single Sided) that is no longer detected in the BIOS, and I would like to replace it with a new SSD, but I'm not sure what is compatible

I'm considering either a
Samsung SSD 860 EVO 500 GB M.2 (M2 SATA 6Gb/s)

or a

Samsung SSD 980 M.2 PCIe NVMe 500 GB (M2 PCI-E 3.0 4x)
https://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00410699.html?offerId=AR202102010067

Did I make a good choice? Or what would you recommend in 512GB?

Thank you
Akhlan

It seems that the SSD you have is an M.2 SATA. You should check if your M.2 port has a dual interface SATA + NVMe (PCIe). If it does, the 2nd one will be the best choice. If not, you will have to settle for the 1st.

I thought I had already given it... Asus ROG Strix GL703VD QC092T but I can't find it on the Asus website...

I think this is the one:

    https://www.comparez-malin.fr/informatique/pc-portable/asus-rog-strix-gl703vd-gc092t.html

Apparently, it has a SATA-only M.2 port. So, it's the first one to choose.

Hello, how can we tell if it's only an M2 SATA port? Because the original M2 SSD that comes with it is indeed a M2 SATA, but is it completely impossible to take advantage of a M2 NVMe PCIe 3 or 4 SSD?

      Best regards

        Hello,

you need to look at the specifications of the motherboard/computer. If it's a laptop, it's likely that it's just SATA.
