Hello,

I would like to add RAM to my Acer Aspire E 17 - E5-774G-77JM PC.

I'm completely lost as I have never modified anything on my computers. I would like to know what to buy and, above all, how to be sure that the RAM I purchase will be compatible with my PC?

The current configuration of the PC:

Intel Core i7 - 6500U 2.5GHz
NVidia GeForce GTX 950M
4 GB DDR4
1000 GB HDD

I would like to upgrade to 8 GB of RAM (or more, if it would be useful for the responsiveness of the PC?). Could you recommend compatible and quality hardware for my configuration?

Thank you very much in advance, have a great day.

Hello,

For responsiveness and loading times, you need an SSD; RAM is only a limiting factor for multitasking, heavy applications with many assets, recent video games, or when you have many browser tabs open.

The best thing to do is to remove the first RAM stick and check its specifications to see what to add later.

Hello, thank you for the response.

To be honest, I'm looking for a low-cost solution and replacing the HDD with an SSD doesn't really work for me (just transferring the 1000 GB of stored data is a hassle), the PC didn't cost me much to begin with and I'm not a gamer; it's used 90% for office work (and 10% for movies or photo editing) and indeed, as you mentioned, to be able to open multiple tabs on Google without the whole machine freezing up as if I were doing 3D work in Photoshop.

Currently, with 2 Excel documents open, 2/3 PDFs, and about ten Google tabs, the PC becomes completely unusable. I have to use ctrl + alt + delete to end tasks, otherwise I'm waiting 10 minutes for the PC to respond. With better RAM, will I still gain performance in these areas?

Great, thank you very much.

Do I really have to take apart the PC to see the reference of the current RAM sticks in order to change them?

I assume I shouldn't remove them if I need to turn the PC back on? What's the simplest procedure? I open the PC, remove one stick to take a photo of it, replace it in its slot, and restart?

Thanks again for the help, that's really nice.

Hello
scan your PC on the Crucial website
or this:
https://www.crucial.fr/store/advisor
you will know how much RAM your motherboard can support and the type of RAM that is compatible

"Do I absolutely have to disassemble the PC to see the reference of the current RAM sticks in order to change them?"

No, you can follow jfmimi's procedure, but it's more straightforward to learn by using the manual method.

"I suppose I shouldn't remove them at all if I need to turn the PC back on? What's the simplest procedure? I open the PC, remove one stick to take a picture, replace it in its slot, and then restart?"

Yes, with the PC unplugged and the battery disconnected preferably. Just avoid petting your cat before touching the motherboard or RAM stick ^^ to prevent static electricity which could be harmful. If you start without a RAM stick, it won't cause any issues, but your PC won't start.
