Hello,
I want to recover an urgent Libre Office file that I see when I open Libre Office.
But when I click on it, Libre Office tells me it doesn't exist.
Its name starts with C:\Users\utilisateur\AppData\Local\Temp\
It ends with .odt
Is it possible, and if so, how can I do it?
Possibly using document recovery software as well.
Thank you very much in advance. I'm very upset.
Configuration: Windows / Firefox 90.0

You must have wanted to modify a document from your email. It therefore opened in a temporary folder that was subsequently cleared by Windows.
The proper approach is to save it immediately in the Documents folder before making any modifications.

Why hack MS-Office when there is a free solution?

Hello,
Thank you very much for taking the time to respond to me.
I think I saved it under "Save" and not "Save As".
That being said, the document was saved as ".dot".
Anyway, it still appears in LibreOffice in the recently used files...
Just to tease me a little, maybe...
Otherwise, I had used a recovery software that listed documents date by date, and I don't remember which one.
Well, that's life.
Let's be positive and say that everything is fine...
However, a simplification of commands and improved readability would be desirable...
I know that computer scientists are often in their own world... and I wonder if before creating commands, they test them with people outside of IT...
They could implement permanent automatic saves and clearly indicate them with pop-ups and show the save location.
It's like sometimes the user manuals of devices...
Thanks again.
Have a beautiful sunny day everyone.- Hello,
It's probably a bit late this time, but as mentioned earlier, "good management" means asking the software to save documents by default not in a Temp folder, but for example on the desktop, which won't get emptied.
I don't remember what the situation is with Libre Office, I haven't used it in a long time, but there’s no reason it shouldn't behave like Microsoft Office: there is an option to automatically save a recovery every n minutes.
Now, additional precautions mean that you should save your document as soon as you create it under the name you've chosen (instead of leaving it as a new document), and be wary of considering the document important during the n-minute delay, power outages, who knows, by frequently forcing the save as soon as you've made a set of significant changes without waiting for the infamous n-delay.

Hello
You say it was saved in ".dot" ...
If that's the case, there are 3 possibilities.
1: right-click on the file .. (you know the location) and select "open with", choose LibreOffice.
2: right-click on the file, select "Rename" and set it to "DocumentName.odt".
3: Try to open it with WordPad, it will be raw, text without formatting, but it might work and allow you to retrieve the essentials.

It's not by renaming a file's extension that you change its format.
