Problem opening RAW files on Mac

Solved

Hello,
I just acquired a Canon EOS R but I can't open my RAW files, either in Lightroom or in Camera Raw. My iMac doesn't recognize them.
The thumbnails for the photos are also not displaying as icons, as if they were PC files. On my previous DSLRs, the photo icons were visible. I reformatted my new SD card to FAT32 but there was no change. Any idea how I could fix this issue?

Hello
Opening a RAW file can be done either through a plugin (for Adobe, but not only...) or via a utility available on the Canon support site.

Thank you for your responses.
Unfortunately, I cannot install Adobe Camera Raw because my system is outdated.
The Canon Raw codec is only available for Windows.
I installed the Canon Digital Photo Professional software, which does open CR3 files, but it is really very basic compared to Lightroom. It's a shame it doesn't convert to DNG either.
I have one thing left to do: try to install a more recent OS on the Mac.

Hello,

You haven't specified the system version of your computer.... and which version it can run, which depends on the age of the Mac...

However, it is possible to download older versions of Camera Raw or DNG Converter by searching the web.. for example:

I am on 10.13.6 (High Sierra).
I installed the versions of Camera Raw and DNG Converter compatible with my system, but neither of them supports CR3.

Hello
The Adobe RAW Support indicates which versions of Lightroom are supported for CR3.
It's up to you to check with your version...

Under version 10.13.6, everything should normally work for this kind of thing.

But if one application or another required a higher version, you would need to know how far your Mac can go, and that depends on the Mac model and especially on its manufacturing period... (year and time of year), and right now we don't know anything.

EDIT: according to what I've read, version 12.4 of Camera Raw Mac should be sufficient for the CR3 extension

and version 12.4 is compatible with High Sierra

My mistake, Camera Raw version 12.4 was able to open my CR.3 files and export them to DNG, so I was also able to open them in Lightroom, which is great.
Thank you for your help.
