HDMI PC/TV signal loss

Hello,

My PC (a tower) is connected to my TV screen, via an HDMI cable. I’ve been using it like that for years, with no problems.

At Christmas I bought a new 4K TV screen, along with a new GPU. I first received the monitor, connected therefore to my “old” GeForce 1070. No problem.

Then I received my new 3070, and there are two small issues.

The first, not serious but annoying: from time to time I get a message at the bottom right of the screen, saying "HDR Signal", then just after, a message at the top left, indicating the source, namely, "HDMI 1 Computer". As if I had just changed source. It gives me the impression that the PC is sending a new signal and the TV interprets it as ... a new signal ...

Anyway, I’m not clear and above all I know nothing about TVs ...

This problem isn’t serious but when I watch a movie or I’m on a game, it’s a bit annoying ...

The second problem is, this one is more bothersome... From time to time, but less often, the screen freezes completely for a few seconds, then goes dark, then a message "no signal: check HDMI cable connection ..." etc, as if it’s not receiving any signal at all. It’s the same message as when I switch to a source with no device connected.

I’m then forced to unplug and replug the HDMI cable for it to work again...

This never happens when I’m playing a game, but it can happen frequently when I’m online. It doesn’t seem to happen when I’m watching a video (movie or YouTube) but I don’t watch much, so I can’t be sure ...

This problem is much more annoying since it regularly forces me to replug the cable.

I should add that it never occurred with the old GPU connected to the same TV, so I think it’s coming from my 3070... I also changed the cable, I went from a 4K cable to an 8K one, thinking a cable capable of higher signal transfer would fix the problem, but no ...

A friend told me that the TV might be set to receive signals of a certain intensity and that if the amperage is too high, it reacts as if it’s not receiving a signal... But again, I know nothing and I don’t know what to do or how to manage this (if that’s the case ...)

If you have any ideas, I’m listening.

The first issue isn’t really an issue. Your GPU is HDR-compatible. It’s probably enabled by default. On some TVs, when an HDR signal is applied, they report it by displaying HDR for a few seconds.

For the 2nd issue, check the temperatures to see if there isn’t any overheating.

Thanks for the info. Regarding the first point, it happens to me several times a day, even when it’s on non-stop. Is that normal?

Regarding the second: no, not overheating, on the contrary, since it only occurs when the GPU is "calm"; in 4K HDR on demanding games it doesn’t get hot (normally it doesn’t overheat, anyway) but in these moments there’s no problem. On the other hand, it’s when I’m not doing anything extreme, like browsing the web, that it happens. I have Afterburner running constantly to manage the fans and the GPU temperature to avoid overheating.

If it happens every time you turn on your PC, it's normal.

Hi, a friend of mine used the other port behind the graphics card and there are no more problems. I don’t remember what it’s called, but it’s as good as HDMI in quality. It has several display ports. use an adapter if needed.

In DVI maybe? I have to admit I hadn’t thought of it at all, I'll try to find an adapter and test it, it might yield something. Thanks for the idea

Does your friend have the same CG as you? Yes, the RTX 3070 only has 2 types of ports: DP (DisplayPort) and HDMI. Most often 2 or 3 DP and one HDMI. RTX 3070s no longer have DVI ports.

Do you have another port, not the VGA, but another one besides DVI?

It must be DisplayPort. I’ll try to find an adapter and test it.

Yes, it's the DisplayPort and he told me that for him he thinks the quality is even better.
