My location is incorrect when I'm on wifi.

Hello everyone

I just changed my modem due to a technical failure, everything is working perfectly except that my location is always wrong on wifi, both on my smartphone and those of my family members, and it jumps at different intervals. Sometimes it is stable and accurately indicated, other times it changes to show a location that's about ten kilometers away. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this??!!
It's driving us crazy at home especially since we're playing Pokémon Go so it really blocks us.

    Hello,
    It happens from time to time but it's rare.

    Clear the cache of the Google Maps app to see.
    Then try reconnecting to Wi-Fi again.

      Well, this dysfunction occurred as I mentioned following a change of Wifi Modem ....
      I emphasize that the issue comes from the Modem and its Wifi antenna since all devices are affected by this only when connected to the wifi ... if we are connected via Ethernet cable or 3/4G, the position is displayed correctly.

      However, unless I'm mistaken, the "positioning" is done in 3 ways:
      1) Either via satellite, and in that case, it doesn't work in a building as highlighted in the first message.
      2) Or via 4G and triangulation of antennas.
      3) Or via the positioning of the equipment to which they are connected. So it is the position of the equipment that is indicated and not that of the smartphones.

      In this last case, the location can be quite imprecise and will depend on the... provider.

      One suggestion might be to first contact them.

        it's your mobile that does the location tracking, not your internet box; it just connects you.

    On the other hand,
    I redirected to games/pokemon for a reason, given the level of the question.

    Gentlemen Experts, how do you explain that when all our devices switch to 4G we are well located // when we switch to Wi-Fi we are all located 10KM from our actual location... so I don't see anything funny in my question.... read my request carefully, I mentioned the game Pokémon Go just to show that it impacts the proper functioning....       but I will still show you your mistakes:
      As explained above,
      the localization of devices is done:
      1/ by GPS if it is equipped, localization is usually accurate to 10m outdoors (satellite visibility).
      2/ by triangulation of 3G/4G antennas, but this requires querying the telecom operator, who is not obliged to respond (they typically respond to Google; as for Pokémon, I don't know).
      3/ by geolocation of the IP address, which is an approximate and often very inaccurate practice; in fact, this process should be banned in my opinion due to the abuse that is made of it by websites.
      It is clear that the IP address you have on Wi-Fi is what it is, but it is different from the one you have on 4G; that's normal.
      Now,
      what information do operators (or users) provide for the localization of the IP address, no one knows.
      When you are connected to Wi-Fi and an app asks for access to geolocation data, it will certainly take GPS info if you are on a mobile; at that moment, even if you move, this location will still be yours, as long as it is not updated for another.
      If you are not on a mobile with GPS info, then it will be random or the previous position that will be taken, so definitely incorrect.
      In short,
      go take a walk outside and you will find your correct position.
