Hyphen issue replaced by a weird symbol on Writer

Hello everyone,

I can't seem to fix a problem. I switched from a laptop to a desktop computer. Anyway, I ran into a guy who was not professional at all, I'll spare you the details... After cloning my laptop onto the desktop, he ended up completely reinstalling the desktop as if starting from scratch.

Since then, in the OpenOffice Writer software, when I want to make a list using the hyphen from the number 6 as a bullet point, that is, after confirming with a carriage return at the end of the line (the Enter key), the software replaces the hyphen with a really strange symbol.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

    If you change the font type to another one (like Arial, for example), does it do the same thing?

    Hello and sorry for my late reply, but yes.
    Even if I change the font, as long as I make a dash with the 6 key, then a space, then characters and a carriage return with "enter," my dash turns into a weird symbol...

    I really don't understand why...

      With OpenOffice, when you select the part of the text where there are bullets, do the dashes get selected with the text (or remain unselected)?

      If that's the case, the font that is used by OpenOffice is not available on your new computer.

    The dashes are selected along with the rest of the text... I must admit I don't understand...

      Do you have the latest version of OpenOffice? ... update it for your new computer.

    I am on version 4.1.8 while 4.1.9 is available, but I had some issues installing the new update some time ago. I will try to fix that soon, hoping it will solve this font issue with the dashes.

    Hello,

    OpenOffice uses the fonts installed by the system. So make sure that the fonts used are the same on both the old and the new machine.

    If you do not trust how the application was installed, it is probably better to uninstall the application, clear its user profile and reinstall it (with all administrative rights: Right-click on the installation file > Run as administrator).
