Transforming Ethernet to Wifi (CROUS residence).

Hello everyone,

As a student, I have accommodation from the CROUS. However, in my room (and for everyone in my building), I only have internet via an ethernet cable (coming from an ethernet socket in my room). No WiFi, which is quite annoying for moving my PC or using my phone.

I was wondering if it would be possible to convert this ethernet network into WiFi. I've already read a few topics about it, but they are quite old, so I assume things have changed, and there are more up-to-date routers...
I've tried to search on my own but I'm having difficulty figuring out which router would work well for me.

Thank you very much to everyone who will take the time to help me!
Alexis

    Hello

So no wifi in the room?

For not too much money (you are a student) there is this:

    Compatible with the 802.11n/g/b standard
    https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B00VVHONRM/ref=twister_B089RBYWWF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

    or (Compatible with the 802.11n/g/b + 802.11ac + speed)
    https://www.amazon.fr/TP-Link-Routeur-Wi-FI-Gigabit-Bi-Bande-dp-B071RSD473/dp/B071RSD473/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

or this one (+ smaller but not delivered with a 220/USB power supply)
    https://www.amazon.fr/TP-LINK-TL-WR802N-R%C3%A9p%C3%A9teur-Routeur-Ethernet/dp/B00TQEX8BO/ref=pd_cp_147_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=6YJVKQF47N0DY0948RGG&th=1

      Oh, thank you very much!
Yes, no WiFi in the building... It's a bit annoying but thinking about it, I would probably have fewer problems with ethernet. Just need to buy a router.

So we agree, I just need a router with an ethernet port and logically it should work?

      Thanks again!

    Hello,
be careful if you connect to this network by authenticating through a web browser, I’m not sure it will work via a router without additional settings. I hope Brupala, our network specialist, will stop by and tell you more.

Hi, yes it's possible, you can look into Wi-Fi repeaters

      Hi,
I would have said a Wi-Fi access point instead.
But many repeaters function as access points today.

The 3rd link proposed above in PA mode seems correct to cover a student room, it only requires a smartphone USB charger to power it or a PC...
      Afterwards,
there are significantly better products, if you have the means, but it's for other needs.
