USB preference locked to controlled by connected device

Hello, I have a problem regarding USB preferences. My phone refuses to charge when it is turned on ever since I changed the option from "controlled by this device" to "controlled by the connected device". Since then, I can't revert to the default setting, even after a complete factory reset of the phone.. I'm lost. Please
I need help.

Configuration: Android / Chrome 74.0.3729.136

    I have the same problem. I have to change the setting every time I charge it.
    But I don't remember selecting the "Connected device" option at any other time.
    I have a Sony Xperia XA2. I forget one time out of two to change the setting to "USB controlled with this device" when I charge my phone, so when I pick it up, it hasn't gained a single percent.

    We need help. If anyone has any insights to offer us a solution?
