Hello,
I bought a PC from materiel.net two years ago. And for the past few days, there has been a problem at startup. Here is the message I have:
This Product is covered by one or more of the following patents: US6,570,884, US6,115,776 and US6,327,625
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Series v2.64 (11/20/15)
PXE-E61: media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key
I tried looking at the BIOS to change the Boot devices but everything is "undefined."
Can you please help me?
Thank you in advance.

Hi,
since the PC is 2 years old, it's in UEFI
With this symptom (network boot display), there are 2 hypotheses: the UEFI has lost its configuration or the hard drive is defective...
Try resetting the BIOS/UEFI to default settings
If it’s still the same afterwards, suspect a faulty hard drive...
Bye

If you need anything, just let me know!...

Hello didmed
Thank you very much for your responsiveness.
I don't know UEFI
I restored the default Boot settings and now I just have the message:
Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key
If the hard drive is faulty do you know:
Thank you for your help

If the hard drive is faulty do you know:
- how I should choose a new hard drive (I imagine there are reference and compatibility issues)?
- how I can recover the OS from materiel.net?
Thank you for your help
Re,
I suppose your PC is a tower model?
How can I retrieve the OS from materiel.net? >>> The OS is Windows 10?

OK
1- Since the OS is Win 10, there's no need to recover anything from materiel.net because the license is 'registered' in the BIOS/UEFI of the motherboard >> so if you reinstall Win10 on a new disk, as soon as you're online, Microsoft's servers will recognize the license and it will be reactivated! (good news)
2 - For the new disk, get a 2.5-inch SSD: it's much faster than an HDD (hard disk drive) >>> if you're not downloading videos to store on the disk like crazy, a 256 GB disk will be just fine (count between 30 and 50 €)
But before getting to that, you should diagnose your disk on another PC tower >>> you take it apart and connect it to see if it's recognized or not and accessible with Win10 to be sure it's dead

Ok indeed it's good news for Win10.
However, I don't have another tower to diagnose the HDD.
On the other hand, I don't know if this can help, but I have other HDDs in my tower that were used for data storage.

If you're reinstalling Win10 on an SSD, you must first disconnect ALL the hard drives
Then install using a Win10 ISO file burned onto DVD or USB drive >>> If you've never done it, it can be daunting...
I have to go >>>> back around 9 PM
bye

Sure, no problem, it's great that you can help me. Reply when you can.
Yes, indeed, I've never done it but I'm okay to try.
If I have to install Win10 on another hard drive, will it format it or erase all my data?
To install a Win10 ISO file on a USB drive, how does it work? What size do I need on the USB drive?
Thank you.

Hello
test the disk with "crystal disk info "
it's a software that allows the user to know the status of their hard drive.
Download it here
This software is well designed, indeed it has a color system to inform you about the condition of your HDD/SSD:
- Blue > the hard drive/SSD is fine
- Green > the hard drive/SSD is fine
- Yellow > caution the hard drive/SSD has bad sectors, back up your data as soon as possible, then replace the HDD/SSD
- Red > the hard drive/SSD is severely damaged, replace it, it is about to fail
If possible recover the data.
- Grey the hard drive/SSD is detected but no longer works.
You also have Hard Disk Sentinel with more detailed results on the number of deteriorated sectors and the percentage of defectiveness of the HDD/SSD.

To troubleshoot your computer, we will create a bootable USB drive
download the ISO file (win10PESE_x64_1703-v2.iso) Here
then we will create the USB drive
Follow the steps to create the USB drive step by step.
Insert your USB drive into the computer
Download Rufus Here
launch it.
At the top in devices, your USB drive should be listed.
Click on the Select button then navigate to the download folder to double-click on the ISO file.
In the boot type, the ISO file is then present.
In the Partition scheme field:
If the computer is an old one (more than 8 years, old BIOS), set the "Partition scheme" to MBR
If the computer is recent, UEFI BIOS, you should choose GPT
To start creating the drive, click on the Start button at the bottom.
Then click OK on the warning about data deletion from the USB drive

how to install Windows 10
The principle is to create a USB installation drive for Windows 10 and boot the computer from it to install Windows.
Since the computer is crashing, you need to create this from another functional computer.
You can see this tutorial:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOyomBuCD_0
To create the USB drive:
You need a USB drive with at least 8 GB.
Create a USB drive using Media Creation Tool
This page
Boot from it by changing the boot sequence and selecting the USB drive or DVD
How to boot the computer from USB drive
If the drive doesn't work, try making another one with Rufus
see here
restart Media Creation Tool and select "ISO file"
Launch Rufus and then specify the path of the ISO file
In the partition scheme, choose GPT.
The Windows 10 installer should then start:
Choose custom (not upgrade)
During the partition phase, select the main partition and click next.

Well, I followed the procedure up to the start of the Win10 installation.
After selecting the disk "Drive 0 Unallocated Space" and clicking next, I get an error message that appears: "We couldn't install Windows to the chosen location. Check your media drive. Here are the additional details on what happened: 0x80300002."
