TV Antenna Connection
Solved
Hello,
I don’t know if I’m in the right forum. Here’s my problem: I have two TV antennas on the roof (I don’t know why, it came that way when I bought the place), and they haven’t been working very well for a while. So, I bought a new antenna that my son installed. In fact, when he went up on the roof, he realized that the old box was completely dead. The two antennas stayed on the roof, and the new antenna was installed, but the reception isn’t great, and I don’t have all the channels. So, my son and I thought it might be a good idea to buy a splitter to connect the three antennas—good idea? But which splitter?
I admit I’m a bit lost, and I’d like to understand a little more before calling a technician.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Have a good evening.

Hello and welcome to this forum,
You actually need a UHF antenna (small beam) and a VHF antenna (larger beam) that used to be for the first black and white channel, then Canal+ at its inception; this frequency is now reserved for DAB+ (digital radio), and you can get rid of it.
You cannot couple these antennas
"he noticed that it was the box that was completely dead"
It must have been a VHF/UHF coupler, so it’s useless
"So I bought a box antenna"
What does that mean? What is its reference?

Hello,
Thank you very much for this response that already clarifies things for me.
The antenna purchased is: EVOLOGY EV-K1005 passive outdoor HD TNT antenna
optimized frequency range 470-698 MHz / 4G protection
max gain 8.5 dBi
Av/Ar ratio: 15 dB
F connector / output 75 Ohms
If I understand correctly, I can already get rid of the VHF large antenna?
Thanks again for the help. -
But you're welcome, yes, you can get rid of the VHF antenna
This antenna has a ridiculous gain (only 8.5 db !) and I think the UHF antenna will perform much better, try connecting it directly without the splitter box

Sure, thanks! I had noticed the low gain, but after reading various reviews, they were quite positive. We'll follow your advice, but if it doesn't work well, which antenna should I buy? When I looked into it, there were a lot of negative reviews on many antennas.
Thanks again! -
Yes, start by connecting the current antenna and if there are no results, buy a tri-band antenna with a gain of 15 dB and filtered LTE 4G/5G

Hello,
Just to confirm that your explanations were correct. We connected to the UHF antenna, removed the VHF antenna and the box antenna, and it works great.
Thanks for taking the time to give me the information.
Have a good day. -
But you're welcome, and I'm happy for you, nice to have dropped by and regarding the greenery
