Mac that's no longer charging (charger light on)

Hello,

Yesterday my Mac, which usually works very well,
won't turn on.
The battery being dead, I plug the charger into the mains.
The charger's light turns on and the screen of my MacBook Pro lights up to indicate the "little lightning" which means that the Mac is charging.

However, after 30 minutes of charging, I decide to turn it on.
I then realize that the Mac still indicates the battery is very low and therefore it is not charging.

This morning I plug the charger back in and decide to try again, just in case.
The Mac turns on then!!!
For a few seconds I can see the screen to log into my session (where I am asked for my password) and that my Mac is indeed charging with 6% battery.
Then, after a few seconds, the screen goes black again and the low battery indicator reappears.

What to do? Change the charger? The battery?

    Change charger: you can try testing a charger from one of your friends who have a Mac, but apparently since the charger light turns on when you plug it into the Mac, it seems to be working.

    "... Battery?...":
    It depends on the age of your battery and the number of charge cycles it has gone through, but this last piece of information will only be known once your Mac is back to health.

    "...The battery being discharged..."
    Did you reach a very, very low charging threshold, like 0%?
    I suggest you reset the System Management Controller (SMC) of your Mac.
    While PRAM still exists on Intel Macs, the majority of critical functions are now managed at the SMC level, which manages the following according to Apple:
    - The response to using the power button
    - The response to opening and closing the lid of a Mac laptop
    - The battery management
    - Thermal management
    - The sudden motion sensor
    - The ambient light sensor
    - The keyboard backlighting
    - The state indicator management
    - The battery state indicators
    - The selection of an external video source (instead of an internal source) for certain iMac displays

    If issues are encountered with any of these functions, resetting the SMC can resolve them.
    Note: This operation presents no danger.

    There are three methods to reset it depending on the Mac model:
    - On a desktop Mac, you need to turn it off, unplug the power cord, wait 15 seconds (at least), press the power button for 5 seconds (at least). Then, plug the power cord back in, wait 5 seconds (at least), and start the Mac

    - On a portable Mac with removable battery, you need to turn it off, unplug the MagSafe adapter, remove the battery, press the power button for 5 seconds, then put the battery back, plug the MagSafe adapter in, and start the Mac.

    - On a portable Mac with non-removable battery, you need to turn it off, unplug the MagSafe adapter, then simultaneously press the 3 keys (the left ones) Shift, Ctrl, Alt( ⌥ ) AND the power button. Keep these 3 keys and the power button pressed for at least 10 seconds and then release everything at the same time. The computer should not turn on; if it does, restart! You can then start the Mac.
