Worn effect on Photoshop

Hello, I'm working on Photoshop. I've created a pattern and I would like it to have a worn and damaged transparent effect. I've made my transparent background layer and on top of that, my layer with the pattern. I'm looking for a way to "erase" certain parts of my pattern to give it a damaged effect. However, using the eraser tool doesn't look natural at all. It’s important to actually "erase" and not to cover it with a damaged effect because this pattern will be printed on stickers that can be applied to a surface while still seeing the color of the surface underneath. I hope I’ve made myself clear and that someone can help me.
Thank you in advance :)

    Hello Annadraw,

I think the best thing to do is to add a mask to your pattern. Then you should look for a destroy brush on the internet, like here for example
    https://www.deviantart.com/tag/brushes
. Some of these brushes have nice worn effects, you just need to add it to your brush list and gently erase parts of your pattern by playing with the brush opacity, even adding material back afterward. (Black color to erase, white to add).
