Missing Outlook 365 Contacts!

Hello hello

I've been trying for 3 days to find my Outlook contacts that have mysteriously vanished.
I called Microsoft and they told me they don't manage either contacts or calendar...
I'm searching online and I can't find what to do to recover them (I had several hundred - work - personal)
Does anyone have a brilliant idea?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

I find it strange that you have PSTs but no OSTs while you have an IMAP account.
In Outlook 365, we only have PSTs if we make local backups.

What is your email provider? You should check there, as with IMAP, the data should be on its server.

Yes, I will call Fre.. you are absolutely right.
Moreover, I have the same issue with Fre. online.
And the contacts I have on my phone are those I created through this means.
Thank you for this clever idea, I will get back to you as soon as I have the information.

Yes, I think Gmail is pretty good. But I can't tell you much more, I've never really used it, except on my smartphone.

    Hello,

It is indeed curious... When you click on Contacts (at the bottom) to display "My contacts," do you have no list, or do you have empty lists?
And if you search for any contact in the contact search box, checking "All Outlook items," do you find anything?

Have you created a new email address recently?

Hello Marina, thank you for your response.
I click on contacts and my list is empty.
And yet when I use autocomplete while sending an email, it gives me addresses, but rarely; 95% have disappeared.
I have the .pst file on my disk, I haven't changed anything on that front.. I admit I’m completely lost because everything works except for the contacts (or address book).

It’s difficult to understand without seeing your app, obviously.

Are you using POP or IMAP? In IMAP, by default, data is stored in OST files rather than PST since the 2016 version, I believe.

Try to check first if you have multiple PST or OST files, and if so, depending on the dates, try to export.

To locate your PST files: File tab => Account Settings => Account Settings
click on the Data Files tab.

To export: File tab => Open and Export
Click on Import/Export then Export data to a file

Initially, export to a new PST, selecting your mailbox and clicking on the dropdown arrow, select only Contacts.
This way you will have a new PST containing only contacts, you can open it and check if it’s empty or not.
If it gives nothing, it’s concerning... You can do the same thing to an Excel file... but I’m afraid it won’t yield anything more.

Great idea, I did it but in the contacts file, I only have the column title, no data!! Ugh, I really can't see it..
I have 3 .pst files. I would have tried to do it with the other two but the system tells me that if I switch .pst, it may affect my calendar and I don't want to lose it!!
      Thanks Marina :)

        It is an IMAP account.

Marina is right! If you're using IMAP, you should have the files on the server.

      Thank you
Since I have a Free email address and I no longer have a subscription with them, I will have a hard time asking them for anything.
I am therefore recreating the contacts one by one from my emails.
      Have a good day

        Ouch!
Yes, that's the problem... I always say that one should never be dependent on an internet service provider. Too many people take the email address that comes with it, and that's really a mistake. Because even though they are now required to keep the address when you leave, um... they still do a bit what they want.
So, my advice would be to quickly change your address and get one from an independent provider away from your ISP... You have Gmail, Hotmail, outlook.com, La Poste (I don’t recommend it...), Yahoo, and others for free options.
Personally, I opted for a paid one, and I have no spam anymore, plus you get an address of your choice. It costs me €1.20 a month...

Then, little by little, you can start changing your address.

        Top.
Thank you for this advice, I'll probably do it even though I've been using the same email address for decades.

Personally, I changed addresses two years ago after having used the same address since the dawn of time!! :)

In fact, I emailed all my contacts to let them know. Obviously, I kept and still keep the old address in Outlook and I check it regularly. When I still receive some emails from certain senders who weren't aware (not everyone is in our contacts), I set up an Outlook rule to change the destination folder. Little by little, we're managing even though it takes some time. Now I mostly get spam on the old address. But I will never delete it... even though it doesn't serve much purpose anymore, I don't want anyone to steal my address which is still mine!!! :)

Yes, I just created a Gmail account and I'm going to take inspiration from you for the procedure by rummaging through my emails to recover my contacts ????
I don't think Gmail is a bad choice at all. I had an account with them a long time ago under my maiden name that I never really used.
      What do you think?
