Hello,
I have a Lenovo G500 i3 8GB 1TB and after replacing the HDD with an SSD, I would like to upgrade the processor to a more powerful one. I'm quite comfortable with hardware but a bit less with software, which allows me to change it without issue, but where I'm lost is in choosing a compatible processor.

Good evening,
First of all, before debating which processor to adopt, I am not convinced by your approach. Indeed, laptops are not very upgradeable, and it is neither financially nor materially advantageous to modify it.
It all depends on the motherboard > Cooling, power supply, etc.
Finally, your PC is entry-level. It will be difficult for you to achieve something performant...
