No signal TV connection to VHS Solved

Question

Good evening,

I received a Polaroid HD TV 24 inch / SERIES 1000 (https://polaroid.tech/en/access/70-96-s1000-24-hd-led-tv.html) for Christmas and I would like to connect an old International brand VCR, model 612R. Since my TV doesn’t have a SCART input while the VCR's output must go through a SCART, I had to use an RCA cable (the three wires, that's RCA, right?) with a SCART adapter for the VCR.

To summarize the connection, I have my VCR, the SCART adapter connected to the SCART output of the VCR, and the RCA cable connecting the VHS player to the TV.

Unfortunately, when I use "AV" as the source on my TV (which corresponds to this famous RCA input), nothing happens except for the display of "no signal." I've done several checks:
- the VCR works on other TVs
- my RCA cable works on my new TV if I connect a DVD player to it
- my SCART adapter works with other devices (such as a Wii console)

Therefore, my conclusion is that the TV is not compatible with the cassette player. Can anyone confirm if this is indeed the source of my problem? Also, do you know if there is a solution to resolve this issue? If needed, I can take photos of my various devices.

Here is this adapter for example, which would do the job.

There's no point in buying them more expensive, it's exactly the same in the end unless you're paying much more than what a quality adapter is really worth.

Indeed there are two SCART outputs, but I connected the adapter to the correct one. I used the SCART output from my VCR that I used with my old TV where I could connect a standard SCART cable.

I tested two adapters (see photo below). There is no switch on these adapters. It seems to me that the gray adapter comes from a console (maybe Wii), and I used it as an input to the TV, not as an output from the console. Is it possible that this adapter only works as an input and not as an output?
As for the black adapter, it belongs to my father, but I don't know much about its original use.

Hello,
To determine the direction (input or output), just look at the pin layout on the SCART connector. Normally, the pins not used by the adapter should not be present. We can therefore deduce, using the pinout of the SCART connector, the direction used.

You need to check the composite video input and output (pins 19 and 20)

Since the adapters have male connectors, it is likely in the SCART > RCA direction.

And the adapter in your first photo only handles mono audio.

And when you say that, is it with the TV that's causing the problem that it works?
What’s the connection in that case? (from the WII to the TV).

No unfortunately, it's with my old TV. In fact, for the Wii, it's a specific RCA cable with three wires (red, yellow, white) on one side and a specific Nintendo connector on the other side (it looks like this: https://jeux-video.fnac.com/mp35527496/Cable-Audio-Video-RCA-Pour-Nintendo-Wii-AV-Cable). So my SCART adapter went on the other side, to connect to the TV (since that TV only had one SCART input).

However, I'm sure the RCA input on the new TV works because I have a DVD player with an RCA output. I connected the DVD player to the TV directly via RCA, and it works perfectly.

I also think the problem comes from there, given all the tests I've done so far. I'm still surprised because I have other recent televisions (which are 1 to 3 years old at most) with which it works very well (but I've only tried with a SCART cable, not RCA, and the TVs in question are not the same brand). If the problem really comes from there, is there a solution? An adapter to modify the signal sent from the VCR to the TV, for example?

I just looked at what I have and did some tests. Unfortunately, I no longer have the manual for the VCR and I can't find it online either.

I wanted to check if, on another TV where the SCART connection is possible and works, the RCA + adapter setup works too... and to my great surprise, it doesn't work!

Having just found a second SCART adapter (with stereo sound), I set up the following:
Adapter + RCA + Adapter

I was therefore able to connect the VCR to the SCART input of the TV where I had already managed to make a pure SCART connection work (with all the pins). And again, it doesn't work. The problem seems to be the compatibility between the VCR and the Adapter/RCA setup.

Is there a solution?

The issue is rather that your adapter needs to be wired for inputs and not outputs, as mentioned earlier...
So buy this:

Which you will switch to "OUTPUT"
Or an adapter that is not switchable but has "OUTPUT" or "Output" written on it

- no, there is neither sound nor image
- the most I can say about the scope, in the absence of a manual, is that it is an International 612R, it says "LECT NTSC-BI-VITESSE-OPTIMUM PICTURE CONTRÔLE" on it, as well as "6 Hi-Fi heads". Nothing more...

- Yes, I have tested both SCART sockets on the scope. For info, the second one is blue and it says it is for the decoder... Anyway, the result is the same.
