Crossing a wall with RJ45

Hello,

I’d like to connect my PC to my box via wired connection, and instead of pulling a 10m cable, I thought about simply drilling a hole through a wall and placing a female-to-female box on each side, with a cable connecting them directly.

I’ve looked into it, read the forum here, but I don’t know much and I’d like a simple confirmation of my plan of action.

1 - I cut the ends off a small RJ45 cable
2 - I push it through the wall
3 - I connect it on each side to the box, matching the color codes directly (T568B wiring)

Just like that, is it okay, will it pass? No wire crossings to plan?

One more question: by splitting the connection into three segments, will I risk any speed loss compared to one long cable?

Thanks for the help,

Xavier

Configuration: Windows / Firefox 69.0

    Hello,

The problem is the type of cable. If you take a standard M/M Ethernet cable and cut it, it’s a flexible multi-strand cable that doesn’t adapt well to female connectors (you want to install a wall socket?).

For female outlets, usually we use a solid-core (copper) cable, which is more rigid. It’s the wire that typically runs through walls.

There may be female connectors for multi-strand cable, but I can’t seem to find any.

    Best regards

Yes indeed, I have a colleague who accidentally bought 10 cables of 20 cm, I was thinking of swiping one from him, and I simply wanted to put a wall outlet on each side ^^'
So, thanks for the info, I will look into buying a single-core cable.
