Audacity crackling issue

Hello,

I want to start rapping and I've acquired a little set of gear: Scarlett Solo audio interface, microphone, computer, and headphones.
Anyway, I'm using Audacity, I received my audio interface yesterday and I can now record with my microphone.
But there's a problem: when I put the instrumental on one track in Audacity and record myself on another track at the same time, the sound crackles, slows down, and just sounds terrible!
Whereas when I listen to my voice on a single track, it's perfect, and the same goes for the instrumental; it's just the two at the same time that mess everything up...

So if someone could help me, that would be really cool. I've been trying to release my first track for almost 2 years, but I've always had issues... Maybe it's my microphone that's not good enough (30€ on Amazon)... Anyway, let me know what you think, thanks!!!

Hi Memphis,  Apparently, it's not a problem: - Audio interface. I have 2 in this range and it's good gear. - Microphone: if you can correctly hear the track alone, it means the microphone did its job.  Maybe a problem with: - Computer performance. This would imply that your machine is really struggling. - Software settings being too precise - RAM - Volume  Possible solutions: - Close all other applications when you work on audio - Record (in any case) the voice in mono - Check if the audio input is not set too finely. Your card (I don't know what generation it is) goes from 24 bits to 192 bits. Set it to the lowest. - Check if the volume is not peaking when the 2 tracks combine (above 0db)

Yes, Scarlet is great. There's no debate about it.
Just because you have a recent computer doesn't mean it's necessarily performant. Plus, reading 2 tracks in Audacity should normally be accessible to a very basic setup.

- Go to preferences. Look for sample rate 44100 and quality 16-bit.
- The volume gauge is at the top. If your audio is in the red, lowering the volume won't help (it's strange, but I've tested it. For me, that's how it is). You need to lower the track through effects.
- You're right, it can clip in red on the audio interface.
- At worst, try another software to see. What I mean is, there's always a solution.

In any case, if you manage to record, that's already pretty good. I can't do it. But I don't care, I'm on Reason. It's a bit better than Audacity :-).

c.f. The link below. Your spectrum should look more like "original" than "re-mastered". It should not touch the top and bottom edges.

Effect > amplification > you lower it by a few db

Work more on Ableton, you can process your audio in dynamic mode. Unlike Audacity, you will be able to apply as many changes as you want without degrading the original file.

Memphis, I'm not sure of anything. I'm just making guesses based on what you say. I'm providing you with leads from what I know. It's up to you to draw conclusions.

You told me that when you listened to the microphone's standalone recording, there were no issues. So I concluded from the start that it wasn't a microphone problem.
Those who say on Amazon that this microphone is bad might be right.

With experience, you'll reduce the number of purchasing blunders, but it will always happen. I know something about that.
