Hello,
I have a question: I want to create MP4 or AVI files from a Sony M180 HD/DV digital camcorder. Is this product compatible?

Setup: Windows / Edge 18.17763

OK, it's still quite different.. This device seems like a little marvel, but you need to do the training to know how to use it well, it's shown here https://www.ebay.fr/itm/Sony-HVR-M10E-Deck-Mini-DV-and-DvCAM-PLAYER-RECORDER-/262495499792 but you need the detailed manual to use it.

Yes, it has a digital output... but to create an MP4 or AVI file, there are quite a few intermediate steps... First, you need to understand video files and their encodings... Because there can be many variations of AVI or MP4, as that's just the container...

-- I imagine you want to do this encoding on a computer... and where are you going to input your video signal and also the audio..??
Depending on the type of computer, you can add a video capture card... unless it's a laptop.. You'll need to use USB or Fire Wire, which is much better... and an external adapter...
      For example: https://fr.shopping.rakuten.com/nav/Informatique_reseau/f2/Adaptateur+FireWire

There you go, think about it... There are hundreds of topics on the web dealing with this encoding.

    Hello,

Wouldn't it be more of a Camcorder instead of a VCR ...???

And your reference "Sony M180 HD/DV" is nowhere to be found... so check how it's written carefully.
