Hello,
I have been using Ubuntu on my PC for a few months now. Today, I need to install a mini USB wireless adapter since my computer no longer detects Wi-Fi signals and I don’t have the option of an ethernet connection.
The Wi-Fi adapter is not detected by my computer when I plug it into the USB ports. Moreover, despite the presence of a CD, the installation doesn't start automatically. What should I do? Could you please help me?
Configuration: Linux / Firefox 65.0

Ubuntu Linux, I had the same problem too, and I couldn't solve it, simply because these OS are not fully developed or compatible with certain brands and types of wireless cards or sticks!! I've tried so many methods and command lines posted all over the web, but nothing works.... It's possible that the drivers for these devices are not recognized or compatible with Ubuntu, unless you have the setup.exe of your driver rewritten in .deb....
So the connection is only possible via Ethernet!! And as a result, I went back to Windows 7 :(

What is the brand and model of the wifi key?
Insert your wifi key and type the following command in the terminal:
copy/paste the result here.
I completely disagree with ToutCool's answer.
Linux is perfectly fine; if there are missing drivers for certain peripherals, it's not the fault of the Linux developers but rather of some manufacturers: not only do they not provide a Linux driver for the hardware, or if they do, it's a driver that needs to be compiled by yourself (a complicated operation for a beginner), but they also refuse to make public the data that would allow the free community to create a free driver. Consequences: there are certain brands to avoid when using Linux.
Linux comes with hundreds of free drivers that allow a large number of peripherals to work without needing to install anything, and this is the case for the majority of wifi keys, but there are a few that escape this rule because there is no free driver for the reasons mentioned above.
Another thing: You say "my computer no longer detects wifi signals," could it simply be that the wifi is turned off? On laptops, there is a button or a combination of keys that can enable/disable wifi; it can happen that this is done accidentally.
