Hello everyone (:
Following the wake-up of my Lenovo G50-45 running Windows 8.1, I encountered the well-known error message 0xc0000185 which appears:
-Failed to load the operating system because the system registry file is missing or contains errors.
- File: \Windows\system32\config\system
- Error code: 0xc0000185
I want to clarify first that the hard drive was changed two months ago, so it is new and works perfectly, so I don't think the problem specifically comes from it, I think...
I tried to boot the PC in Recovery mode, but I get the same message, that cursed blue screen.
I downloaded an ISO image of Windows 8.1 from Microsoft's site and burned it onto a new 32GB USB stick to access the repair tools, and I can do that, but the USB stick and the console are super slow to load, which is strange because my PC has never been slow and this stick hasn't either as I've only used it once since I got it. I'm "afraid" to start anything if it's already super slow to load, could it work?
I also checked in the BIOS and the hard drive is set as priority.
I thought about "burning" a live version of Linux ISO onto the stick (never done that, need to find out about the procedure) so I can then recover all my important files and transfer them to my external hard drive, but if I do that, I won't be able to replace the damaged file directly from Linux, right?
Oh, I also tried via the command prompt of the Windows 8 ISO console to replace the file with an earlier version of the same file, but I'm being denied due to an I/O peripheral issue, not sure what that means...
Any idea on how to fix this in the simplest way because I'm struggling...
Hoping someone can help me, pleaaaaase...
Configuration: Windows / Chrome 71.0.3578.98

Hello,
The registry files are corrupted, so Windows won't boot anymore.
This may be due to a hardware issue with the Flash drive.
If you have access to the command prompt or the registry files, you can try to copy back C:\Windows\system32\config\bak
see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atKXTGjsg_s&feature=youtu.be
Otherwise, you will need to reinstall Windows 8:
Follow this tutorial that explains how to install Windows 8: how to install Windows 8.
All the steps are given from A to Z with tips at the end to secure Windows 8.
The steps are basically:
Your data will then be copied to the Windows.old folder, more info: The Windows.old folder

You just need to reinstall the same edition.
