Hello,

I have a big problem since this afternoon with my desktop running Windows 10. I should mention that it was working perfectly yesterday. But today, when I turn it on, everything goes well. It accesses the desktop normally, and for a few minutes (3 or 5), it works fine. After this period, everything freezes on the screen except for the mouse, which can still move. But I can't do anything, everything is stuck, it's like I'm trying to click on an image. Even keyboard commands like Ctrl+Alt+Delete don't work at all.
So I’m forced to manually turn it off, and every time, the same thing happens during the restart. It accesses the desktop, freezes, and I can't do anything...
I've also had a few instances where the screen was completely black with again the mouse able to move, which, in itself, is the same situation as when I see the desktop since I can't do anything anyway.
However, when I turn it on in safe mode with networking, it works perfectly fine.

Knowing that yesterday before shutting down my PC, I disabled Windows updates that were slowing my PC's performance while I was actively using it.

Do you have a solution for me, please? (Could it be a hard drive problem?)

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

Start with the advanced system recovery options using method 1 on this page: Windows advanced recovery options.
The idea is to restart to the page where you're asked for the password, with the icon in the bottom right and while holding the shift key.

If you DO NOT reach the window where Windows asks for the passwords, because of a blockage or crash beforehand...
Turn off the computer twice during the Windows loading.
It will enter repair mode, which will also grant access to the advanced system recovery options.
(If starting the advanced recovery options is impossible, you need to create a USB drive to boot from, you have a link in the previous page for that).

From Troubleshoot, you can then try:
  • From the settings menu, restart Windows and go into safe mode, from there you can uninstall an application that is causing problems like your antivirus.

You can also create a new account and try to log in normally.
See if the problem persists there as well.

Lastly:
  • perform a system restore to revert to a previous configuration of Windows
  • Reset Windows 10 (this keeps the data but removes the applications).

Thank you very much! It worked! But do you know what caused this problem? I wouldn't want it to happen again...

No, it's hard to say,

but I invite you to create a system image now that you have a stable Windows.
=> How to create a Windows system image
This system image can be restored at any time, including Windows, updates, and installed programs.
Very handy for easily restoring Windows when everything crashes.

So if you need to reinstall Windows, you can restore your image, which saves you from having to reapply all the tedious updates, reinstall software applications, and programs.

Good evening,
In the first five minutes, try to roll back to a date prior to the manipulation on Windows Update, see here:

Also check in Safe Mode..

You're welcome,
The causes are multiple and since I don't know the history of your PC, it's hard to say.
I suppose this action " Knowing that yesterday before shutting down my PC, I disabled Windows updates " may not have gone well, or perhaps a forced shutdown could also cause issues...
