Hello everyone.
After looking everywhere for a solution to my problem, I'm turning to you because I'm desperate!!!
My husband can no longer connect to the internet. His computer is connected via a powerline adapter. He is on Windows 7 and we have the Freebox. I don’t have any connection issues with Wi-Fi, neither with my phone nor with my tablet.
Initially, I changed the powerline adapter cable, but nothing changed. I tried a system restore to a date before this problem, with no result. I attempted all diagnostics and each time the message appears: error 651, the modem returned an error.
I've messed around with a lot of things, but nothing works. So, before I continue to mess things up and cause a big bug, I’m reaching out to knowledgeable people because I’m pretty clueless!!
I hope you can help me because these outages are really annoying....
Thanks in advance and have a good day.

Hi,
modem?
What does that have to do with anything? You’ve done some funny tweaks like creating an internet connection to get to this point...
Could you post the output of the ipconfig/all command here?
See the output file in the link and copy the txt file to a USB stick to post it from your machine.
Also,
If it doesn't work through powerline adapters, you absolutely need to try with a direct Ethernet cable.

Hello everyone, following a change of ISP I struggled like many with the infamous error 651.
After long hours of research and attempts, I managed to connect on W7.
-The wifi works, the network card, the box, the laptop connected via ethernet, but not the desktop PC.
My solution:
uninstall the applications from the previous ISP if they exist, the network card (via the manager).
Delete the "connections" settings of Internet options (network and sharing).
"Clean" the PC (with Glary utility for example).
Restart the system and it works (at least for me)
Good luck to you

What is a VPN???
It's a virtual private network
In IE, look in >> settings (the gear icon at the top right) >> internet options >> connection
In the "Remote Access and VPN options" box, delete the connection if there is one

Bazar, when it holds us,
there's hardly anything we can rely on here...
Your PC only works on wifi with this box, right? Nothing works via ethernet?
We don't know if the cable with the extension you've put in is functional,
nor the ethernet network cards of both PCs.
We really need to test with a direct cable to the box.

I tested it directly on the box, but it doesn't work!! And what I don't understand either is that with the powerline adapter, it always worked well until one day the connection disappeared!!! As for the Wi-Fi, it used to work somewhat, but very slowly because it was far from the box. For the network cards, do I have the option to check if they are working? Earlier, I will try again with my laptop directly on the box....
Here is what I did: I went in front of the box with my laptop and plugged in a cable. It works. I added the necessary extensions one by one to reach my husband's computer; I had some issues along the way with the connectors that weren't making good contact, but in the end, I reconnected my laptop and the connection was OK.
Then I plugged in my husband's computer and here's what I got: "the device or remote resource is not accepting the connection." After a diagnostic: "not configured to accept connections on the HTTP Web Service port."
So here I am with new stuff that I don't understand anymore.
Do I need to redo an IP config with the cable plugged in?

Hello Dominator. No, I haven't tried because I didn't understand everything!!
"Uninstall the apps from the old ISP if they exist, the network card (via the manager).
Clear the "connections" settings from internet options (network and sharing)." I don't really know how to proceed with all this!!! When I say I'm useless, I'm not joking!!!!

Hi Brupala,
6.1.7601,
that's Windows 7, right?
besides, it's in the original question ;-)
yes, that's right, and it's also written in the initial message >> He's on Windows 7
I just wondered about the antivirus that could cause problems
See you later

Hello there
This problem occurs because the Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) is trying to create a host route, then detects that the route to the host created by the remote access connection already exists.
Go to this site, everything is explained

Hello everyone and thank you for your help. But for now, nothing conclusive.
I tried to do the manipulation recommended by Brupala, but I can't display this thing; it disappears as soon as it appears!!!
Then, for the cable, I can't connect directly because I don't have a long enough cable! I need about 20m and I don't have that on hand. Unfortunately, I live in a village so there's no shop to help me out. And for now, I can't order online because I'm waiting for my new credit card (I had to block the other one due to a purchase on a fraudulent site!!). So here I am stuck from all sides!!
Have a good day

OK,
so there is an ethernet connection but no communication, at least not completely, which leads to an APIPA (address in 169.254....) valid only locally.
Was it connected via the powerline adapters at that time or via a direct cable?
If it was the powerline adapters, please redo it with a direct cable.

Hello everyone. I'm back here because I finally received my connectors to make the extension and connect the computer directly to the box. But it still doesn't work, I'm still getting the same error 651!!! I must admit I'm completely at a loss.....
OK,
which connection are you talking about?
please provide an ipconfig/all like you did before.
also,
can you test your PC on the extension you made?

No,
the error message 651 that you mentioned cannot exist on an ethernet connection to a box; it can only occur if you configure an internet access in pppoe or something like that. I would like to see the list of your connections.
ipconfig/all as requested above
and netsh interface ip show interface

Hello Brupala, billmaxime, and dominator for your help. But right now, I admit I'm fed up and I think I'm going to stop everything!! My fiddling around with all sorts of things seems to be doing absolutely nothing except getting my nerves on edge. So I've decided that I'm going to reformat this computer to restore it to its original state. Well, it's not going to be simple because there are important software programs on it that my husband wants to keep at all costs, so I'll have to find all the codes obtained at the time of purchase!
I know, I should have gathered all of that somewhere, but since when he decides he wants something, I have to do it right away and once everything is loaded, I quickly return to my other tasks and I don't secure the codes!!
So, thanks again for your help and maybe I'll come back here after this process I'm going to do because I imagine there will be some issue somewhere!!! Lol....
Have a great day, everyone.

Hi
the factory reset will take you some time, as there are around 250 updates for W7...
try the manipulation from this message before the factory reset >> https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-22960500-erreur-651-windows-7#4
PS: you are with Free >> It's on Windows 7 and we have the Freebox
and you mention your emails with Orange...
Another thing I don't really understand: with the cable, I can access certain sites (including this one since I'm writing to you via my husband's PC!!! However, for others, like the Orange portal where I read my emails, it's impossible!!
