Hello everyone,

Here I am sharing my problem hoping that someone can help me because I don’t understand much!!

For a few days, I haven't had Wi-Fi access on my computer, and even using a USB Wi-Fi adapter doesn’t work!! So I'm forced to plug in!! I don't know if this is related, but I recently caught the Bagle virus, which I managed to eliminate thanks to this forum!!

Everything returned to normal because I could reinstall an antivirus, except the fact that my Wi-Fi doesn't work anymore. When I click on the connection, the following message appears:

"Windows cannot configure this wireless connection

If you have allowed another program to manage this wireless connection, please use that program.

If you want Windows to configure this wireless connection, start the Wireless Auto Configuration service. For more information about this service, see article 871122 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base website."

I really don't know what to do...

If someone could help me, that would be really nice...

I hadn't read your first post properly, actually you need to start the configuration service.

Start Menu/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services

Right-click on "Wireless Automatic Configuration" and start it

And then you'll be able to set up your connection

Hello

This means that the default configuration program for your WiFi connection is the one provided by the card manufacturer.
Normally, this program should be found in your list of programs (Start menu/programs...)
or there should be an icon in the taskbar at the bottom right. You click on it and you should have your configuration program.

Start menu/Connections/Show all connections
Right-click on wireless connections/properties/wireless network configuration tab

and check the box "Use Windows to configure...
OK

Click on your wireless connection like you did before and use it, and then you will be able to configure it.

I think your WiFi card's driver does not support the automatic configuration service.
Do you know the manufacturer of your card?

Hello I read your message Here are the steps to resolve the issue: If you have Windows XP You need to click on: Start - Run, then type services.msc You will have the local services window where you look for Wireless Network Auto Configuration You double-click it and then you need to make sure that in the startup type you have "Automatic" then you click on Start. Start by one thing, with your Wi-Fi USB key or your Wi-Fi card, you automatically installed a software with the driver to access your internet connection. First, delete this software, then ask Windows to configure your connection, and then try reconnecting your PC to your box.

Thank you for your advice. Apparently, my WiFi connection is working fine even though I have a red cross on the icon of my wireless connection! An evening spent configuring a WiFi connection, I've never seen anything like it. But since Microsoft can create such convoluted configurations, it must be in their genes to make things complicated.  When things are complicated, it means one doesn't know how to keep it simple!

To restart the wireless system under Windows Pro, simply follow the procedure below  Click on Start, then Run and type the message %systemroot%\system32\services.msc Click on the wireless configuration line. Check that the configuration is set to automatic startup. Then in the service status click on Start and it should start.  If you have problems finding the message, instead of running, go to Search. Search for a file named services.msc

In certain cases when you install the driver for the wifi card, it also installs a utility to manage it, for example with the RT73 USB key or the wifi driver in certain portable brands like Dell, or a program that manages the wifi connection such as Netstumbler.
You can return to the Windows wireless connection utility by:
1st case - Start + Control Panel + check if there is a program in the "Classic view" list represented by an antenna icon usually named 'Wireless Local Area Network Adapter Utility.' You can find this with Dell’s wifi driver, for example. When you launch this program, you'll find a box labeled 'Let this tool manage your wireless networks'; uncheck this box to solve the problem, insha'Allah.
2nd case - If you find next to the icon of the Windows wireless connection utility at the bottom right of your screen a second utility for the wifi card that you've installed, click on this icon with the right mouse button and a list will appear. Click on 'Switch to Zero Configuration mode' i.e., Windows utility and the problem will be solved, insha'Allah. This is the case with Netstumbler and Ralink network adapter utilities.
3rd case - already mentioned:
If you receive the following error message:

Windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you have allowed another program to manage this wireless connection, use that program.
