continuous section break/next page Solved

Question

Hello,
When I choose a "continuous section break," WORD 2010 stubbornly moves to the next page instead of continuing the text on the same page.

I encountered this problem for a series of articles, each with its own set of footnotes, but grouped in the same file. What I'm trying to achieve is for the footnotes to restart at "1" for each article and not to continue from the previous articles' notes.

(Note: the menu I used is found in the "Page Layout" tab, under the "Page Break" submenu, which also offers the options for "next page" and "continuous" section breaks).

Did I make a mistake somewhere? How can I fix this?

Hello.

"the footnotes start again at 1 for each article" doesn't tell us much: are you talking about paragraphs or sections?
Could you send an excerpt (2 or 3 pages) of your file?

The "articles" I am referring to are articles from a magazine.

Each article is a text, distinct from the one that precedes it and the one that follows it (and comprising several paragraphs), but it may start partway through a page, and not necessarily at the beginning of a new page.

Generally, these articles contain footnotes; I do not want the numbering of the notes in a given article to follow that of the previous article, as the texts cover different subjects.

That's why I thought that by placing each article in a separate section, I could start the numbering with "1" for each of the created sections, with the subsequent note numbers being normally incremented.

Unfortunately, when I choose the "continuous section break" option, Word immediately jumps to a new page (whereas I want the new section to follow the previous text, and not start on a new page).

I would like to send you an excerpt from this file, but I don't know how to attach it to my message!!

I suggest a simple solution: convert to endnotes. In References/Footer Notes, do: * Location/Convert/Footer Notes to Endnotes * Format/Numbering/Restart at each section * Apply changes to/all the document. The downside is that the reference to the section does not appear (but maybe m@rina can remedy that). I have the same problem as you, for the same reason: "If the previous section contains footnotes, the new section starts on a new page, even if 'continuous' has been selected." But apparently, you are giving in to the software since you accept that the section break is equivalent to a page break. The numbering issue (note 4 of the ending text followed by note 1 of the starting text) is not crucial: a gap of two lines can be placed between the two groups of notes.
Does anyone know how to solve the problem: obtaining consecutive sections, despite footnotes specific to each section?
