Inactive Printer

Good evening
So, for the past few weeks, my printer has stopped printing. It's properly plugged in (into the socket and behind the central unit), it's on, the ink is new, and there are sheets of paper. But my computer doesn't recognize it; I've deleted and reinstalled it with the installation software. I even took out the ink and put it back; a test page showing that all colors work has printed, which means that the printer is correctly connected. But still nothing, however, in the control panel under printers and faxes, it says " Ready ", so it's correctly connected.
But when I try to print something in Paint or Word, no matter what, I see my printer's name and below it says " Status: Inactive ", so that's why it's not working, but how do I make it active???
I should note that it's an HP DeskJet printer, quite a well-known model.
Thanks in advance :)
